Year 8 Earth Science

Term 4 has seen our Year 8’s working on their Earth Science topic. This has involved learning about the rock cycle and the three key types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. Did you know that fossils are only found in sedimentary rocks? This is because there is too much heat involved in the formation of the other two types. To help us model this, some of the year 8 classes made dinosaur fossils. We pressed a dinosaur into plasticine to make a cast and then filled the case with Plaster of Paris to create a cast fossil. They looked fabulous! Jade, Chelsea and Chloe’s fossils are shown here. Some classes also created fossilisation comic strips to outline the process and steps involved in the formation of a fossil – Mia B’s from 8M4 is shown here.
