Crochet Club

Crochet Club and Eastern Palliative Centre.

While many of us will recall the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 with a sense of time taken away from our social networks, it was also a time where we were given the opportunity to explore hobbies and crafts.

Upon our return from the 2021 lockdowns, discussion amongst students and teachers culminated in establishing a crochet club in E10, yes, the senior Biology room, every Thursday lunchtime. Whilst the number and participants varied over the course of two years, it was an opportunity for many students to learn the skill of knitting and crocheting from their crafty friends and teachers. Naturally, the production of granny squares needed a purpose.

What would we do with the products of our newfound skills?  School First Aid Assistant Tammany Kelly suggested that the students may wish to produce blankets that could be donated to the Eastern Palliative Centre, the largest single provider of community based palliative care services in Victoria.

Upon completion of three blankets a celebration lunch was held to applaud the work of the students and then the handcrafted blankets were presented to Tammany Kelly to be passed onto the EPC community.
