Year 3/4 Cluster News Term 4 Week 8

 

HOME INQUIRY

Reading: 

Spend 15 minutes reading. Can you find any Christmas related texts that you could recommend or share with the class?

 

Maths:

Add up the total cost of 5 items in your kitchen. (Access catalogues online to support)

 

Home Inquiry:

Discuss the needs within your local community/suburb. What action could be taken? Can you create a list of the needs to share. 


Learning this week

Literacy:

Jolly Spelling: Year 3: “dge” as in edge, fidget, porridge. Year 4: “ear” for er as in search, pearl, rehearse

 

Jolly Grammar: Year 3: Subject and object of a sentence. Year 4: Changing a statement to a question.  

 

Writer’s Workshop: Students prepare oral presentations to support persuasive arguments when debating. They will also work on the editing and proof reading skills when producing free choice texts.

 

Reader’s Workshop: Students will finish the year focusing on a spotlight, ‘Reading that brings you joy’ with a focus on fiction, non-fiction, poetry texts with a Christmas theme.


Mathematics: 

Classes will review number skills and operations for the remainder of term.


Unit of Inquiry:

Classes will explore the needs within our school and question what we can do to help our school community? Students will propose ideas, take action and have conversations around needs within our school.


Christian Studies: 

Christian Studies lessons will focus on the birth of Jesus and the Christmas Nativity story.


Announcements / Diary Dates:

Apps to install: Please install the app HeyJapan onto your child’s iPad, it will be used in Japanese for the remainder of the term. 

 

Carols Concert – Friday 1st December (Week 7) 

 Our annual Carols evening is Friday Week 7. This year the students will perform a song in clusters, with a play of the nativity to also be presented. More details to come closer to the date. 

 

 

Year 3/4 End of Year Excursion – Bowling & GoldenFields- Monday 4th December (Week 8):  Please return by the end of Week 6 (Friday 24th November). If your child has any dietary requirements, please inform your classroom teacher as we are looking at providing a pizza lunch.
