Principal Reflections

Dear Parents and Carers,

NAIDOC Week Celebrations

St Edward's celebrated NAIDOC Week this week with a special assembly yesterday. This year's theme is 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud.' The students have been working alongside our wonderful team of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Assistants and Mrs Clarke to learn, understand and appreciate the importance of this theme.

Our assembly started with a smoking ceremony and we would like to thank Mr Shannon Taylor for giving up his time to be with us. We also listened to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students as they spoke to the meaning behind the theme and also performed a cultural dance. Fr Roel shared a special blessing to the community present. After the assembly we cut the cake and enjoyed a friendly game of footy.

Thank you to the parents and carers and special guests who attended this event to commemorate NAIDOC WEEK. It was a wonderful celebration to end our term.

Term 3, Week 1- uniform and events

I would like to thank our parents and carers for their wonderful support of our school this term. We have certainly been very busy and have achieved some great successes.

Next term will be here before we know it and it starts with a busy week 1 schedule. Please see my table below outlining the key events and required uniform.

St Edward's students will now be asked to transition into wearing sports uniform on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays and school uniform on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will commence in WEEK 2.

Due to the athletics carnival being on Thursday of week 1 we have initiated a swap to support parents with the organisation of uniforms for THIS WEEK ONLY.  Thanks in advance for your support.

Monday - Staff Development Day (Teachers working on new curriculum)
Tuesday - Students K-6 return (school uniform)

Toni Palmer Memorial Shield Rugby League Competition

St Edward's had two teams represent the school at the Toni Palmer Memorial Shield Rugby League gala day in Inverell today. Congratulations to all the boys from Years 6, 5, 4 and 3 who played with such passion and enthusiasm, they were a credit to our school. It was an absolute pleasure for myself and Mr Flynn to coach the two teams today! The boys played some excellent football and came away from the day with fantastic results:

Senior team (Yr 5/6): 2nd place overall

Junior team (Yr 3/4): 3rd place overall

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break and I look forward to seeing you all at the commencement of Term 3.

Until next week,

Keep smiling,

Alison Hatton
