We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Carmen Cassar to Caroline Chisholm College. She shared her intriguing journey to becoming a published children's book author with some of our senior students. Carmen discussed the processes of drafting and editing, the importance of networking, and the value of seeking professional guidance and feedback. This unique and invaluable opportunity inspired and encouraged these students to consider their own pathways to becoming authors.
Year 11 and 12 have been eagerly exploring what’s on offer at the various universities, with Lunch & Learn showcases featuring Uni of Wollongong and Macquarie Uni recently. Coming soon we have University of Sydney, Notre Dame and UNSW.
Last week, a group of Year 10 students advanced in their WSU Fast Forward program by participating in an event at the Kingswood Campus. They learned to identify their interests and explore potential career paths by examining various industries and post-school options. The day's highlights included engaging and empowering group activities, where students interacted with lecturers, toured learning spaces, and took part in a campus challenge.
We are excited to welcome two parents as guest speakers for this month's Lunch & Learn sessions. Vanessa, an experienced health professional, will discuss careers in nursing, while Tim will provide insights into careers in space and satellite technology. These presentations are open to students from Years 7-12.
Career education extends beyond the school day with lots of ways for students and families to take a deep dive into the wide world of careers, thanks to one of our partner organisations, Study Work Grow. The SWG website features a huge range of free resources, including job spotlights, future study options and life beyond work and study.
The Careers Clusters Quiz will be rolled out to Year 10 next week - nearly 700 students have now done the quiz in wellbeing lessons so far. Have a conversation with your daughter about her Clusters - a PDF report of individual results was emailed to each student. This link will take you to a detailed summary of each Cluster which gives some meaning and context to the results. Students can re-attempt the quiz at any time by clicking here. Parents and carers can have a go too - use this link and discover what clusters you’re aligned too and what the results mean!
Students can keep up to date with all our careers news and resources - including Careers at Canvas, the Ponder Pathways Hub and Beyond.
To book a coaching conversation, or for any pathways enquiries, students can pop into the library or email us: amacnamara1@parra.catholic.edu.au and koliver4@parra.catholic.edu.au
