You Beaut Uke Group

Secondary Students have formed Nowra Christian School's newest musical group, the 'You Beaut Uke Group'. With no experience or ukulele necessary, students are being taught ukulele skills by esteemed local ukelele player, Martin Fairweather. You Beaut Uke Group meets on Wednesday recess in the art room. Mrs Stewart would love ukulele donations. If you have one uke, she would love to hear from you. alisonstewart@ncs.nsw.edu.au

Bell Shakespeare Performance A Resounding Hit

On Thursday 6 June, Years 4-7 welcomed performers from the Bell Shakespeare Theatre Company in Sydney for their performance of 'Just Romeo and Juliet'. The performance was a high energy adaptation of (arguably) the Bard's most famous play. From start to finish our students were mesmerised by the guile and craft of the three actors as they moved between different roles with great aplomb. Alex N. (Y4) and Will A.(Y6) were chosen for some supporting roles in on stage and threw themselves wholeheartedly into hitting their marks and delivering their lines! Although originally, penned by English Playwright, William Shakespeare, as a tragedy, the actors collaborated with their audience to adjust the ending so that Romeo and Juliet (and the previously warring Montague and Capulet families) lived happily ever after! After rapturous applause, the actors stayed for a ten minute Q and A session with our students, before posing for some photos with a few of our children from the younger years.

CSSA State Volleyball Gala Day

Our team clinched second place in our pool, showcasing hard work and teamwork. We started strong with a narrow victory, boosting our morale and setting the stage for subsequent wins. A close loss to the top-seeded team highlighted our strengths and areas for improvement. Encouraged by the promise of a free Maccas soft serve ice cream if we won our last game, we delivered an outstanding performance, blending aggressive offense with solid defense to secure second place. This significant achievement reflects our dedication and potential for future success and we got our ice cream.

Queensland Crushes NSW: NCS students witness State of Origin showdown

On Wednesday 5 June, State of Origin war was declared on Queensland in an 80 minute brawl. A crowd of 80,000 people witnessed the battle including 20 Students and 5 staff from Nowra Christian School at the Accor stadium to hopefully see a victory for NSW.

The trip up was uneventful and consisted of a stop at Macca's for dinner. We arrived just in time for the pre-game entertainment consisting of an amazing light show with music before we got a dramatic introduction of both Queensland and NSW players. The crowd booed the Queenslanders and cheered the NSW players as they were introduced and as they went onto the field.

During the first half NSW was keeping up well however during the second half the Queenslanders scored more and more points embarrassing NSW and at the end it was 10-38. NSW will make their grand comeback in the second game so for this round we will let the Queenslanders take their victory.

On the ride back home a stop at Heathcote was made and this was meant to be a “quick toilet stop,” however, this stop was anything but quick as students waited for what felt like hours, we all thought the sun would start rising before we got back to school. The noise on the bus died down as we rode home with every student feeling the tiredness of being awake in the early hours of the morning.

Overall witnessing the war between Queensland and NSW was a fun experience with many memories made!

Red Frogs to Finals: Highlights from the Netball NSW Schools Cup

On Wednesday 22 May, ten amazing, fabulously talented netballers braved the two minute bus ride to the Shoalhaven Netball courts to play in the Netball NSW Schools Cup.

We played seven games of netball versing other schools in the Shoalhaven. Slushies were promised after the first win (still not fulfilled Miss Bignell!), inspiring the girls to keep going for some chicken nuggets. During the day we won four games against Bomaderry High and Nowra High.

Everyone started the day with a keen attitude, even those who had less experience in the game. At the end of the day, everyone gave it a good crack with a solid result to reflect on.

In our pool we came second and went on to play the final against a very strong, full rep team, St John's. Much to our surprise we narrowly missed the win to St Johns but everybody did put in a lot of effort considering it was our 7th game.

The highlight of the day were the red frogs on the bus, everyone agreed. Thanks Miss B for buying us red frogs and even though you forgot to give them to us at half time, but in our humble opinion they tasted just as good on the bus.

A big humongous, massive thanks to the Maintenance guys who took on the immense challenge of driving the bus and setting up the tents and an even bigger thanks to Mrs Bate who got called up throughout the day to come and umpire. Mrs Bate really did save the day!

Another big thank you to Miss Bignell who coached us and organised the team. The team included Zara T, Layla M, Layla R, Bridget C, Jada L, Grace M, Enya T, Lacie P, Belle L and Adele. All in all, everyone had a great time.

Buddy Time

Lat week our youngest and our eldest students got to buddy up. Kindy had the most lovely art planned for their time together. Year 12 and Kindy make a good team! While Kindy were "Creative Directors" for the nature craft, Year 12 were "Masters of the Glue". It was so lovely to see them connecting. It is such a blessing to be in a K - 12 school where these connections can happen.

Stage 5 Drama attend Bell Shakespeare Workshop

Bell Shakespeare have a fantastic programme in which they offer free workshops with one or two of their actors to school groups. Our Stage 5 group got to work with Dallas yesterday, working through the characters and story of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". We also got to have an insider look at the costume and set designs of their upcoming performance at Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre. A number of the Stage 5 and 6 Drama students, family members and staff will be attending the performance with the NCS Theatre Club.

Year 5 Fantasy Drama Performances

Last week saw the Year 5 Fantasy Unit in Drama come to a climax with the performances of their self-devised fantasy plays. The students chose the characters, the complication and resolution that would suit a Fantasy genre play. They then improvised and then rehearsed the plays. They also planned the costumes and the props. Last week they performed them for each other. They did a great job, many of them creating characters and staying in character for the whole play.

Joshua displays his skills at Speedcubing Competition

Early in June, Year 7 student, Joshua M competed in the Kiama Winter Speedcubing competition.

This was his first competition and he competed against other children, teens and adults in the 3x3x3 Cube round.

There was a total of 68 competitors and Joshua came 51st. This was a great result, given some of the times were so close.

Congratulations Joshua!
