Dear Parents,
On the 25th of June, the St Francis Xavier community raised money for the Vinnies Winter Sleepout supported by Anthony Cleary (director of Religious Education).
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the families in our community for their generosity and compassion. As a school, we raised $517.45 for those who are less fortunate than we are and to build awareness for vital Vinnies Services and Programs.
Thank you all, we are extremely grateful and lucky to be in such a giving community !
A Vinnies School Sleepout provides a unique insight into the complex issues that people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage face by “sleeping rough” for one night. Vinnies provides vulnerable people with essential support to rebuild their lives and reconnect with the community, but they couldn’t do it without the support of people like you.
On Wednesday 14th August, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, St Francis Xavier will be participating in a Vinnies School Sleepout to make a real difference in the lives of the 122,000 people experiencing homelessness every night. This sleepout is an opportunity for fathers, grandfathers and father figures and their children to not only spend some time together, but gain a deeper understanding of homelessness and the realities faced by people experiencing homelessness. There will be an opportunity for prayer, cardboard shelter making and soup and bread for dinner, to put ourselves in the shoes of the less fortunate. .
More information will be provided at the commencement of Term 3.
This year, St Francis Xavier will be participating in the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal. The St Vincent de Paul Society is a Catholic organisation that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ. The yearly winter appeal helps the homeless with winter essentials to assist during this cold time of year.
The SRC students have allocated each house colour a specific item of clothing to donate to the Winter appeal. All items need to be new and are requested to be brought to school by Friday 9th August. Your child is to hand these items to their classroom teacher for collection.
The SRC, Serviam and Pope Francis Award students will sort and collect each of the items and hand them to a member of the St Vincent de Paul Society in Week 4.
Each house colour is asked to bring the following items.
McMahon (Gold) - Gloves
Purcell (Blue)- Scarves
Ursula (Green)- Beanies
Merici (Red) - Warm socks
Let us work together to live out our school motto - SERVIAM- I will serve.
Kind regards,
Mrs Isabella Barbera

A message from St Ursula’s College Kingsgrove:
Our joint initiative between Ursuline Academy Wilmington and St Ursula’s College Kingsgrove, in collaboration with the Ursuline community in Battambang, Cambodia, is driven by our shared commitment to Ursuline values and our mission to prepare and inspire the next generation for leadership and service in a global society.
Our community kitchen project reflects our dedication to reciprocal learning, intercultural understanding, and creating a lasting, multidimensional impact for women and society across our diverse communities. Having lived in the community since 2018, the Ursuline sisters at the Mother of Peace school in Cambodia, have a longstanding relationship with the families of Chrab Viel. Daily interactions at the school and regular ministry visits to the local homes have seen the sisters become close companions and visible signs of love in the local community. Responding to the call to serve, an invitation was extended to twelve local women to join a community kitchen. This opportunity not only allows them to provide for their families but also to build a support network. Under the guidance and support of Sister Nongnut and Sister Supansa, these women are embarking on a journey of community engagement and personal growth.
The Community Kitchen Project is a cookbook, aimed to collect a series of recipes and stories to highlight the diversity and unity of the Ursuline family around the world. The funds from the sale of the cookbook will be channelled back into the Community Kitchen in Cambodia to further support the women in their project.
