2026 Selective Education Test Change - Information for Students in Year 3

The 2026 opportunity class placement test dates are 2-4 May, 2025.

The placement tests in 2025 will be held at scheduled times over multiple days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and conducted mostly in external test centres.

Applications for entry in 2026 will be open from 7 November 2024 – 21st February 2025. As there will be a longer application period, parents and carers will no longer be able to submit late applications.

This change to the application period means that parents and carers will now need to apply for opportunity class placement when their child is in Year 3 (or by the end of Week 4, Term 1 when their child is in Year 4).

The outcomes for opportunity class placement entry in 2026 will be available in early Term 3, 2025.

More information will be provided later in the year. In the meantime, for further information and key dates, go to Changes to application process for 2026 entry

Police Liaison Officer Visit

On Wednesday, 19 June our local police liaison officers, Officers Zack and Erica, came in to talk to stage 3 about cyber safety issues. The officers addressed important issues concerning online behaviour, in particular, the legal ramifications of underage social media usage, cyber safety and cyberbullying.

Many of our students may not have been aware of the greater impacts of negative online behaviour. In particular, the officers focused on the permanency of the internet and the potentially detrimental impacts their social media presence has on their future.

The significance of online safety and students’ parents monitoring their online activities was emphasised. Social media and online gaming can present many dangers to our students and they were urged to consider the consequences of communicating with strangers and releasing personal details online.

Social media platforms all have an age restriction of 13 years, and Officers Zack and Erica said that this meant our Primary School aged students should not have accounts. Acknowledging that there are some students who would have social media, they reiterated how imperative it is that parents have the ability to access and monitor these activities.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the students to listen to Officers Zack and Erica's expertise and have their questions answered.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
