Wominjeka to OSHC

Coordinator: Alexis Simmonds and Assistant Coordinator: Sarah Emerson

We acknowledge the first peoples of the Kulin Nation, their Dreaming of the past, present and future. We pay our respect for their land by looking after the land we learn and play on.

At OSHC we’re big on learning through play and incidental learning. Over the last couple of weeks the children have shown us many fun games and activities.

Children have been making up games in our office and kitchen corners creating many games of doctors and vets, one of our grade two students played DJ using the radio while a few others played the air guitar to the tunes. Outside students have taken a liking to adventurer games while others have been putting on performances and concerts with inspiration taken from the upcoming Battle of the Bands concert. Children in the sandpit have made mountains and tiny towns using materials from their surrounding natural environment with every day bringing a new landscape.

With the winter solstice coming up on Friday we have been creating a ‘Winter Wonderland’ on our student gallery. Students have made winter beanies and snowflakes in our craft activities while others opted to draw pictures of fireplaces and hot chocolate. Student’s taste buds have been tested with a range of winter warmers for afternoon tea, trying hidden veggie mac n’ cheese, tomato soup, vegetable curry and apple and berry crumble.

The OSHC Before Care movie has been progressing nicely, filming has been stalled due to actors being away on holiday but is scheduled to pick back up again in term 3. Students have shown off their soccer skills in a couple of the big group soccer matches and great examples of team work and good sportsmanship have been displayed. The ever popular game of Marco Polo has also seen a resurgence.

With one week left of term 2 who knows what we’ll get up to!
