Kitchen Garden

Grow, Harvest, Prepare, Share

Week 1 in the Kitchen...

NAIDOC  Week

We continued to focus on Indiginous ingredients in the Kitchen and used lemon myrtle, saltbush, warrigal greens and  wattleseed.

We are very excited to commence term 3 and have the students back into the kitchen and garden! During the school holidays, NAIDOC week took place. As it is so important to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture, we love to imbed some traditional recipes into our program.

Junior students made semolina Capunti pasta with Warrigal Greens and Lemon Myrtle Oil and Torres Strait Island Fried Scones.

Our senior students made Warrigal Green pasta and Lemon Myrtle Oil, Torres Strait Island Fried Scones and began the process of preserving lemons.

The Hunt for Jars!🫙 🫙 🫙

In preparation for the upcoming weeks in the Kitchen Garden, we are collecting small glass jars to store some of our excess goodies and produce for future use.

Students will learn how to carefully clean and sterilise the jars, fill and correctly label, in addition to having a taste, of course!

The smaller the better, think minced garlic, quince paste, sample size jars.

          NAIDOC WEEK

             JULY 2024

Welcome back to Term 3 and to our school garden.  Our first week back has brought some fresh and crisp mornings, but with less than 47 days until Spring there is always a lot to do.

Week 1 in the garden.

NAIDOC Activities included working in our Indigenous garden and our Bush Tucker garden.

Our Preps & Year 2ś enjoyed wearing their Nasturtium hats and always seem to enjoy saying hello to Mystery & Luke Skywalker.

It was a fun time making our own imaginary gardens and sharing our garden themes with the class.  My garden was a Desert garden with succulents, yellow flowers and lizards that love sunbathing in the sun.

Happy Winter Gardening
