Hume Illuminate

From August 5th to 9th, thirteen of our year 9 and 10 students participated in the Hume Illuminate Enterprise Challenge. This educational program immersed them in solving problems within the Hume community. Students were required to be confident, creative problem solvers, developing their business and entrepreneurial skills both during the challenge and for the future.

They engaged in five comprehensive stages, including (but not limited to) problem framing, ideation, pitching, prototyping, finance, marketing, and culminating in a pitch deck presentation of their "solved problem" to a panel of Hume community business members. Students had the opportunity to network with mentors and business managers, honing their skills and resilience under pressure in a highly competitive environment.

Parliament Prize 2024

Each year, the Parliament of Victoria invites students across the state, from Years 5 – 12, to share what they would present to parliament if they were a Member of Parliament. This provides students with an opportunity to discuss the issues that are important to our community. The College is delighted to celebrate the achievements of Year 11 student Navpreet Kaur, who received a High Commendation, placing her in the top 10% of all students in her age bracket.

Japanese sister school visit

Our Japanese sister school students had a delightful culinary adventure this week as they participated in an Aussie cooking class. They immersed themselves in local flavors by learning to make lamingtons, a quintessential Australian dessert. The students also had the opportunity to sample party pies and sausage rolls, popular Aussie snacks. Under the guidance of our skilled chef Ms Stella Daniele, the Japanese students expertly prepared their lamingtons, mastering the art of dipping the sponge cake in chocolate sauce and coating it with coconut flakes. The final products were a testament to their culinary skills and cultural exchange. The students thoroughly enjoyed their Aussie cooking experience and left the class with a newfound appreciation for Australian cuisine.

ACED Beacon incursion

On Wednesday, 21st August , our year 7 and 8 ACED students took part in the Beacon 'Prepare' program, an initiative designed to equip them with essential skills for their future careers. Beacon run their programs with the aim of preparing students for the transition from school to the workplace. This program is a valuable opportunity for our students to gain confidence and practical knowledge that will support their success beyond the classroom.

Year 12 Japanese Immersion excursion

Students are studying school lunches in Japan. As part of this excursion, they are visiting a Japanese restaurant to experience firsthand how Japan operates its school lunch system. This involves preparing and cooking authentic Japanese food, cleaning up, practicing Japanese table manners, and learning about food education as taught in Japanese schools.

Year 6 Food Technology

Our Grade 6 students had a blast learning a new culinary skill today! They discovered the art of boiling eggs. With a little guidance, they quickly mastered the technique of hard-boiling eggs. The students were amazed at how simple it was and loved the delicious results. This hands-on experience was a fun and educational way for them to learn a valuable life skill.

Year 9 Food Technology

This week, our Year 9 Food Technology students delved into the art of making fried rice. They put their culinary skills to the test, skillfully combining rice, vegetables, and protein to create a delicious and satisfying dish. The students' creations were a testament to their knowledge of cooking techniques and attention to detail. The aroma of sizzling ingredients filled the kitchen as they expertly sautéed and stir-fried their way to a flavorful meal. We were all impressed by the tasty fried rice dishes that our students plated up!

Year 10 Hospitality

Our Year 10 Hospitality students unleashed their culinary creativity today by crafting their own mouthwatering burgers. With a variety of ingredients at their disposal, they experimented with different flavors and combinations to create unique and delicious burgers. From classic cheeseburgers to gourmet creations, the students' burgers were a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. We were amazed by their innovative ideas and the skill they demonstrated in assembling their burgers. The Year 10 Hospitality students truly outdid themselves with their burger creations!

Our Year 10 students showcased their culinary prowess today by preparing a delicious and aromatic butter chicken dish. With meticulous attention to detail, they skillfully combined tender chicken, rich tomato sauce, and a medley of fragrant spices to create a truly mouthwatering meal. The classroom was filled with the enticing aroma of simmering spices and the sizzle of frying chicken. The final result was a flavorful and satisfying butter chicken that delighted everyone who tasted it. The Year 10 students' culinary skills and dedication were evident in their exceptional creation, making it a memorable cooking experience for all involved.

Year 10 Food Technology & Year 11 Food Studies

Our Year 10 and Year 11 students showcased their culinary skills this week with two delicious dishes. The Year 10 students got creative with their pizza toppings, experimenting with a variety of flavors and combinations. From classic to exotic combinations, their pizzas were a visual and taste sensation. Meanwhile, the Year 11 students prepared a healthy and nutritious chicken soba noodle stir-fry. Packed with fresh vegetables and lean protein, their dish was both delicious and satisfying

iFly Excursion 2024

The Year 11 physics classes enjoyed an exciting excursion to the iFly indoor skydiving center, where they experienced high-speed motion and explored the principles of physics in action. A special thanks to Mr. Wasef and Mr Taylor for their support during the trip.

Psychology - Zoo Trip

Our Year 11 Psychology students had an unforgettable field trip to the zoo this week, where they delved into the fascinating topic of obedience. To gain firsthand insights, students ventured into the lemur house and butterfly house, carefully observing the behavior of the animals and their interactions with zookeepers.

The goal of this experiment was to investigate whether members of the animal communities would obey rules and regulations in the presence of a zoo member. Students meticulously noted the animals' responses to commands, their adherence to designated areas, and their overall compliance with the established guidelines.

Throughout their observations, the Year 11 students were impressed by the remarkable obedience displayed by the animals. Even in the absence of direct supervision, many of the creatures followed the rules and regulations, demonstrating a remarkable sense of order within their communities.

Of course, our students were exemplary role models, adhering to every rule and regulation throughout their day at the zoo. Their exemplary behavior served as a positive influence on their animal counterparts and ensured a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

This field trip was a valuable learning opportunity for our Year 11 Psychology students, providing them with a unique perspective on obedience and its implications. The experience will undoubtedly enhance their understanding of this complex psychological concept and inspire further exploration in their studies.

VCE-VM VCAF

The year 12 Vocational Major Students have been working and training in the VCAF this term. They are extremely excited to open their doors to the MRC community and students starting this Tuesday the 27th of August. We are Also excited to announce that VCAF will be open during We share this term, which parents can come and see the Vocational Major Program in action and enough a student made coffee.

U15 GIRLS CHAMPIONS CUP BASKETBALL

On Tuesday August 6th, the Under 15 Girls Basketball team were invited by Basketball Victoria to compete in the prestigious Champions Cup competition at the State Basketball Centre.

There were a few nervous students at the beginning of the day but the nerves quickly turned to excitement as the first game drew near.

In Game 1, Mount Ridley was able to come away with a fantastic two point win over Templestowe College in a nail biting game.

In Game 2, Mount Ridley were able to comfortably take the win against Mentone Grammar.

In Game 3, the situation was simple, a win would mean advancing to the Elite 8 tournament and a loss would send us to an additional crossover game. Mount Ridley were able to produce an outstanding performance from start to finish and come away as convincing winners over Maribyrnong Sports Academy.

The girls now proceed, with high hopes, to the Elite 8 tournament against the very best schools from all sectors of the state.

All students were able to play well and contribute to the team across the day, however, a clear stand-out and MVP of the event was Victoria Leuluai of 8s1.
