Girls Soccer
The girls took on Rowellyn Park and Bayside Christian College to battle it out for the Northern Peninsula Division Championships.
Woodlands played Rowellyn Park in the first game and dominated possession, which lead to an early goal and us going 1-0 up. We continued to have plenty of shots on goal but unfortunately the goal size was that which resembled a hockey goal, so it was very hard to score. The girls ended up running out 2-0 winners.
In the second match against Bayside, it was more of the same. Plenty of possession, plenty of shots, couldn’t quite get the ball in the back of the net. However, in the back end of the second half, the floodgates opened, and we managed to finish 3-0 winners and overall champions. Well done girls!
AFL – Northern Peninsula Division
On Thursday the 25th of July, the Footy team went out to represent Woodlands Primary School at Mount Eliza in the division round. In the first round we played St. Jude’s in a game that was extremely close. We started off strong with a quick two goals in the 1st quarter, but St. Jude’s answered back with a quick two goals in the 2nd quarter. No one scored until the last quarter which St Jude’s scored, but Zac Taylor saved the day with a heroic kick from 30 meters. He kicked the ball as a drop punt but it was skidding against the wet surface. The ball only just went over the line to make us go to overtime. Beau Callahan marked with one hand to get a mark right in front of the goals. He scored and we won 6 goals 1(37) to 5 goals 1 (31).
In the second round we played Saint Augustine’s, and it was tough for us. We started to kick a few goals, but it was the second quarter where we started to really pick up our game, but so did Saint Augustine. We went into 3rd quarter time with the game very close, however in the 4th quarter we came out stronger than them and started to score a lot. With the score ending up with six goals 4 to 3 goals 3 which meant the score was 40 to 21 with Woodlands taking home the win and the flag!

We’d like to tell you about our soccer tournament in division. Our team arrived at Mt Eliza at 11:30 am and prepared for our first game.
For our first game we played against Flinders, it was a blast, the start was a bit messy but once we scored, we were on a roll! In the end we won 5-2 and just then did we realise how much harder this competition was going to be.
In the break after our first game, we watched the girls, before heading onto the field for our second and final game of the day.
In the second game, against St Annes, it was another slow start. At one point it was so close, we thought it was going to tie. In the first 5 minutes it was 1-1, but eventually, we pulled through and started scoring goals left and right. At the final whistle, we cheered, but we were respectful, and lined up to shake hands, the final score was 5-3 and Woodlands had won.
On Friday the 21st of August the soccer boys will compete in the regional tournament and have high hopes to progress to the next round.
