Holy Cross Happenings
Welcome Back!
It may have been a cold, wet start to Term 3 but the sun still managed to shine through and it was lovely to see smiling faces back at school, even if they were under an umbrella!
Wet Day Program
We did have some break times this week where it was too cold and wet to go outside, even though some children were still keen to play in the rain!
However, staying indoors during the break gave friends time to share their holiday stories, play games and stay warm! Caleb and Casey in Year 2 also made an obstacle course for the Preps and their class to enjoy.
The children have engaged in numerous wet day activities this week including playing 'school', card games, creating art work and setting/solving subtraction problems with friends. It has been lovely to see the children enjoying each other's company upon returning from their the mid-year break. Fingers crossed the rain passes soon.
Ashleigh and Demi were keen to challenge themselves with their own Maths equations.
School Holiday Activity
Diego was excited to share his school holiday project when he returned to school this week. He planted radish seeds on the 27th of June and on Day 19 couldn't believe the seeds had turned into seedlings. According to Diego a key factor in this success was knowing when to water them because if the soil is damp, they don't need any more water.
He loves the shape of the leaves and has learnt a lot about looking after seeds and seedlings in Outdoor Education classes. It is so nice to see children taking their learning from school into the holidays and sharing their discoveries. Thank you Diego for your enthusiasm, it is contagious and we look forward to your updates on your radish seedlings!
Confirmation Reflection Day
On Thursday, the Confirmation Candidates spent the day with the children of St Brigid’s preparing for their Sacrament.
The day began with a prayer, then children worked through rotations of activities based on:
- Gifts of the Spirit
- Scripture
- Symbols of Confirmation
- Saints
A highlight of the day was a visit from Bishop Terry Curtin. He spent an hour talking to the candidates about what it means to be Confirmed in our daily lives and how to make good choices in line with our Baptismal Promises.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch and afternoon tea, before finishing off the day with a reflection activity.
Thanks to all the staff who attended and supported the children in this important part of their faith journey.

Fun with Fungi
Last term, our Grade 5/ 6 children explored fungi and their growth! Our adventure began with a trip to Mount Macedon, where we embarked on a mushroom hunt. Armed with curiosity and cameras, we captured snapshots of various mushrooms.
We then returned to school and went straight into growing our own mushrooms in the classroom. We grew a variety of white and brown mushrooms. They grew bigger over time. To conclude the unit, we made a delicious ramen meal, using mushrooms as the star.
