AUSSIE OF THE MONTH

Congratulations to Bowen H, this month's recipient of the Aussie of the Month Award! Bowen truly deserves this honour as he consistently exemplifies our school values of Excellence, Kindness, Integrity, and Respect.

FOUNDATION 100 DAYS of SCHOOL

Congratulations to our Foundation students on reaching 100 days of school! They dressed in colourful clothes and enjoyed a range of activities in literacy, numeracy, and physical education featuring the number 100. A big thank you to Mrs Allegretto, Ms McRae, and all the staff and parents who made this milestone special for our students.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

We had a school council meeting on Tuesday night. It was a productive session with engaging discussions about upcoming projects, budget planning, and strategies to enhance student and community involvement. To read more about our meeting please go to the School Council page.

As mentioned, TheirCare has been awarded the new Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) license and will start at POPS on the first day of Term 4, 2024. They will hold an information session for parents and provide current users with details on their service and account setup. For more information, visit www.theircare.com.au or call 1300 072 410.

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS PRINCIPALS CONFERENCE

Attending the Victorian Government Principal Conference was incredibly enriching. The event brought together principals and educational leaders to share insights, strategies, and best practices.

The workshops and keynote sessions showcased the Victorian English Curriculum’s new focus on systematic synthetic phonics for early reading instruction. It's great to see our school has already been using this approach for the past two years, leading to excellent outcomes in decoding, reading accuracy, and fluency.

I would like to acknowledge our wonderful junior teaching team for using current research to plan and implement explicit phonics instruction at POPS.

THREAD COLLECT

A clothing recycling bin from Thread Collect (Mondo Recycling) has been delivered to POPS.

I would like to acknowledge and thank Mrs Di Gennaro, PA Vice President, for driving this initiative, which aims to reduce the amount of clothing waste in landfills.

We are planning to organise a school community clothing recycling day once a week where the school community can donate clothing, including preloved uniforms that are not suitable for resale.

The first clothing recycling day will be Friday August 9th. Simply bring your clothing in and put it in the recycling bin and give your clothes a second chance.

PA DISCO REMINDER

Don't forget to get your Disco tickets for our Winter Wonderland event on Wednesday, August 7th! Tickets are only $10, and bookings close this Friday, August 2nd at 4 PM. Children can wear a 'Touch of Winter'. You can also purchase sausages from the Lions Club before the disco. Please go to the PA pagefor more information.
