Inclusion & Engagement

Lunchtime Activities

What are lunchtime activities?

Lunchtime activities are opportunities for children to develop the ability to play cooperatively, make positive choices and problem solve within group environments. They will be given opportunities to interact positively with their peers with the support of a staff member.

How are lunchtime activities established?

At the beginning of Term 3, student leaders surveyed each year level about what activities they wished to participate in during their lunchtime. It was important for us capture student voice and agency to create the activities, to ensure we are able to engage children of all year levels with varying interests. Through collaboration with students, we were able to successfully set up 6 activities for children to have access to across the school week.

What activities are included in the timetable?

We have a range of activities that students can participate in including:

  • Games in the gymnasium
  • Craft in the Art Room
  • Construction and Quiet Play
  • Minecraft Education

Who is facilitating the groups?

At Miners Rest P.S, we have a strong emphasis on developing our children to be positive leaders in our community, therefore we have given our student leaders the responsibility of organising these activities and ultimately running them with the support of staff members. Leaders have been asked to create a term planner outlining the activities they will be offering children and have also signed an agreement stating their commitment to the role.
