MAV Maths Games Day

On Thursday, 15 August twelve enthusiastic Year 7 and 8 students participated in a Maths Games Day hosted by the Mathematical Association of Victoria at Heathmont College. The event, designed to challenge high-ability students through fun and competitive mathematics-based games, brought together young minds from a wide range of schools. The day was filled with excitement as students tackled a range of challenging puzzles and problems and engaged in collaborative teamwork.

Each group consisted of four team members who worked together to demonstrate their mathematical prowess and creativity. Throughout the day, they participated in a series of games that required lateral thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication.

With the scores for each event kept through the day it was with great excitement that one of our own Norwood teams emerged victorious, with only one point separating first and second place.  Congratulations to Fraser, Ethan, Koby and Hon who claimed the top prize for their outstanding performance.

This Mathematics Games Day not only provided students with an opportunity to apply their mathematical skills in a dynamic and enjoyable setting but also allowed them to connect with like-minded peers.  The success of the day highlighted the value of fostering a love for Mathematics through engaging and rewarding experiences.  Stay tuned for more opportunities for extension in Mathematics!
