TSC Debating Society
This past semester marked a milestone for Tarneit Senior College with the establishment of our first official debate team. Comprising students from various year levels, the team faced off against some of the most prominent schools in our area, showcasing their knowledge and passion for justice.
Under the astute leadership of Debating Society President Abdul Ali, our team engaged in a series of intense and thought-provoking debates with two teams in A-grade and B-grade. The season took place at Williamstown, consisting of five rounds: two with predetermined topics and three with secret topics unveiled on the day of the debate. Each round tested the students' ability to think on their feet and present coherent, persuasive arguments.
Our team also had the honor of competing at institutions like Deakin University and Monash University, where they achieved commendable results. Despite initial challenges, with early losses by a margin of seven points, our debaters demonstrated remarkable improvement and resilience. By the end of the season, the scores were neck and neck, often decided by just a single point.
The overall experience was invaluable. It was a journey filled with learning, growth, and teamwork. Our debaters have gained skills and insights that extend beyond the debate stage, preparing them for future academic and professional endeavors.
We are incredibly proud of our debate team’s achievements and look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence in the years to come as we aim for even greater heights in the world of competitive debating. Our debaters are eager to take on new challenges and aim for higher achievements. We encourage all students interested in joining the debate team to get involved and be part of this exciting journey.
