Mini School Updates

Junior School Update

The start of Term 4 is always a busy and exciting time as we begin preparations for the transition to our 2026 classes. Students are currently completing their coursework and preparing for end-of-semester assessments. At our assemblies this week, students were reminded of the importance of finishing the semester well and setting themselves up for a strong start to their 2026 classes later in the term.

It is also the time of year when we begin electing our student leaders for 2026. Congratulations to our newly appointed 2026 School Captains, the Junior School Team looks forward to working with you. We are now seeking expressions of interest from students wishing to take on Year Level Captain and SRC representative roles. It has been wonderful to see so many students putting their hands up for these opportunities. We will finalise the selection process over the coming weeks and look forward to announcing our 2026 student leaders in the next newsletter.

We are also looking forward to welcoming our 2026 Year 7 cohort for Statewide Transition Day on Tuesday 9 December, where students will attend a full day of classes in their 2026 form groups. A great deal of work is currently taking place behind the scenes with our partner primary schools to allocate students to classes and ensure a smooth transition into secondary school. We expect to release form group information through primary schools in the coming weeks.

Senior School Update

Congratulations to Our Senior Students!

Congratulations to all of our Year 12 VCE and VCE-VM students, who officially finished their scheduled classes in Week 3. This marked the beginning of an exciting and emotional end-of-year period, starting with Celebration Day. It was a chance for students to come together, reflect on their journey and make lasting memories with their peers and staff. In addition to Celebration Day, we were proud to honour our Year 12 cohort through a Graduation Assembly, where students shared some of their favourite memories from their time at Lowanna College and reflected on the friendships, challenges and milestones that have shaped their secondary school experience. This was followed by a special morning tea that brought together students, families and staff for one final informal celebration before exams began. These events provided wonderful opportunities to recognise not just academic success, but also personal growth, resilience and the strong connections formed within our school community.

The official VCE exam period commenced on Tuesday 28 November with the English exam and will continue through to Wednesday 19 November. We have been proud to support our students during this busy time of revision, preparation and formal assessment. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of all Year 12 students at the Graduation Evening on Friday 21 November and wish them every success in the adventures that lie ahead. We hope that, as a college, we have done our part to prepare them for their future endeavours, supporting not only academic success but also the skills and confidence needed for a happy and fulfilling life beyond school.

Meanwhile, our Year 11 students are finalising their final assessments and coursework for Unit 2 before beginning their end-of-year exams at the end of Week 7 and into Week 8. These assessments are an important opportunity for students to consolidate their learning and prepare for the increased expectations and rigour of Year 12.

We are also excited to announce our 2026 College Captains for Year 12: Layna Hale, Madeline Howlett, Zane Poxon and Aiden Savige. We congratulate all students who nominated and participated in the selection process. The standard of applicants was incredibly high and we commend each student for their bravery in speaking in front of over 1000 people to share their vision for college leadership.

Subject selections for 2026 have now been released and are mostly finalised. If there are any concerns or changes required, students are encouraged to speak to someone in the Senior School Team as soon as possible so we can assist. Please bear in mind that options may be limited at this stage, as some classes are at, or very close to, capacity. Booklists are now available and it is essential that orders are placed in a timely manner to ensure all necessary learning materials are ready for the beginning of the 2026 school year.

The Headstart Program will run from 1 December to 5 December and provides a valuable opportunity for students to meet their new teachers and classmates, gain insight into their subjects and set themselves up for success in 2026. Headstart also offers a preview of course content, giving students the chance to confirm their subject choices or seek support from teachers or the Senior School Team if they have any concerns. This ensures everyone begins the new year with confidence and clarity.

As we approach the end of 2025, it is exciting to look toward the opportunities and growth that await our students in 2026. Whether continuing into their final year of schooling or beginning new pathways beyond the college, we are confident in their capacity to rise to new challenges and build on the foundations they have set this year. We thank all students, families and staff for their commitment, resilience and contributions across 2025 and we look forward to another year of learning, achievement and community at Lowanna College.

Warm regards,

The Senior School Team – Kara, Julie, Ms. Flahavin, Ms. Treverton, Ms. Taylor
