LUX 25

The annual LUX Visual Arts Showcase will once again illuminate the College with an inspiring celebration of creativity and collaboration across the Arts.

Guests will be treated to a vibrant evening of performances including Flute Classics, energetic cultural presentations from Year 7 Chinese and Year 6 Spanish students, a lively Zumba Latin Dance, and a joyful performance from Year 3 Chinese.

The Year 9 Scene Project will captivate the audience with their dramatic storytelling, while Year 7 Drama students will present engaging short pieces and the Year 8 Drama class will impress with their interpretation of The Arrival. The Irish Dancing performance will bring energy and rhythm to the stage, and guest performer Chloe Noon will add a soulful touch with her acoustic guitar set.

The highlight of the evening will be the Visual Art Showcase, transforming the LRC into a stunning gallery of student work that reflects imagination, skill and the spirit of Clayfield. LUX 25 will truly embody the College’s values of creativity, connection and community.

Beginner Band 2026

Applications for Beginner Band are now open! Students that will be in Year 5 and 6 in 2026 are encouraged to apply. This 12-month program gives students the opportunity to learn a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument in a group environment free of charge.

Playing a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument can give students important life skills that include learning how to be responsible and dependable, persistence, how to be receptive to feedback, how to be collaborative, how to overcome failure and recognise achievement.

Please email Mr Tim Opstelten at topstelten@clayfield.qld.edu.au by Friday 7 November should your child wish to join this program in 2026.

String Exams

Congratulations to all our string students who completed their exams last week! We’re so proud of your hard work and dedication. A big thank you to our instrumental teachers, Mrs Gordon, Mrs Tyrell, Mrs Backstrom and Ms Sitas, for their wonderful guidance and support.

Special congratulations to Mabel Morgan, Asher Amarasekara, Damon Karzons and Louis Chen for achieving Honours (A), and to Isla Villis for receiving a High Distinction (A+).

Well done, everyone!

Primary Music Celebration Assembly

We are delighted to announce that the Primary Music Celebration Assembly will be held on Tuesday 4 November, led by our 2025 Music Leaders. This special event provides an opportunity to celebrate our talented young musicians and acknowledge their contributions to the co-curricular music program throughout the year.

All Primary students currently involved in an ensemble will receive a certificate on stage. In addition, students who have shown exceptional commitment through excellent rehearsal attendance and participation in every performance will be awarded a Music Badge, which will be presented during their ensemble rehearsal.

This year, we are also excited to introduce Best Musician Awards for each ensemble, chosen by the ensemble directors to recognise outstanding musicianship and dedication.

Our Year 3 students will perform a set of tunes to share what they have learned through the curriculum string immersion program, and we will enjoy solo performances from Louis Chen (Year 6) on piano and Lia Lee (Year 6) on flute.

All families are warmly invited to attend and join us in celebrating the wonderful musical achievements of our primary students.

Speech Night Rehearsal Schedules

Musicians from Years 6 to 12 who are performing at Speech Night are expected to attend all rehearsals on Monday 17 November at the Clayfield College Assembly Hall and on Tuesday 18 November at QPAC. Please see the following schedule for rehearsal times for each musical item.

All musicians will have a break from 5:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday 18 November and must remain at QPAC. A hot meal will be available through the in-house catering company. This pre-ordered dinner ($18.50) may be purchased online using the link below.

Please note that this is only valid for musicians who are performing at our Secondary Speech Night. Students who do not wish to order a meal are to bring their own. There will be no heating facilities available and no purchasing from the vending machines or the cafe.

All About the Bass

On Monday evening, Mrs Gordon, Director of Co-Curricular Music, and Ms Sitas, Double Bass Specialist, attended a Double Bass Chamber Concert at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

The concert was organised and programmed by Sophia Buchanan, a 2021 alumni student and Music Captain, who also performed in several of the featured works. We are incredibly proud of Sophia’s achievements and delighted to see her continuing to flourish in her musical journey beyond school.
