Staff Farewell

After 13 wonderful years, we say a heartfelt farewell to Sarah Wyer, who will be leaving our school community. Sarah’s connection with us has been truly special, not only as a dedicated member of staff but also as a parent, with her children having journeyed through our Primary School.

Throughout her time here, Sarah has been a cornerstone of our Primary School, managing countless responsibilities across a wide range of areas with skill and dedication. Her commitment to the College community and her warmth has left a lasting impact on students, staff, and families alike.

We are deeply grateful for all that Sarah has contributed over the years and will miss her immensely. On behalf of the entire school community, we wish her every success and happiness as she begins her next chapter.

Pre-Prep Orientation Day

The Pre-Prep staff loved welcoming the 2026 part time class today for their Orientation Day. There was plenty of laughter and play in the Pre-Prep classroom, whilst parents enjoyed their Information Session, meeting new parents and beginning their exciting Clayfield College journey.

2026 Pre-Prep to Year 5 Primary Orientation Day

As previously communicated, we are very excited to welcome our new and transitioning students into their 2026 year levels tomorrow.

For current students to the College this will be a regular school day, where they will spend the morning immersed in a different classroom and environment, meet some of the new friends who will be joining the cohort and complete some learning for the year level above.

Please be aware, the teachers that the students will be placed with on Orientation Day, won’t necessarily be the teachers they will have for the 2026 school year. Our teachers occasionally move from one year level to another in the Primary Years. Classes and teachers will be shared with our community ahead of the new school year.

Friends of Primary

Our sincere thanks to our wonderful class parent co-ordinators (CPC) for their commitment to their classes this year. They have played a vital role in building a friendly, supportive and positive community in our school and we appreciate their time and effort. We will be seeking class parent volunteers once classes come out in 2026 for the new school year.

In the meantime, we are seeking a volunteer to become the class parent co-ordinator lead in 2026. This person helps to set up the Class WhatsApp groups at the start of the year, helps to orientate the class parent co-ordinators and liaises with the Primary Leadership team and Engagement Team. It is not an onerous task, and a full handover and support is available from the existing CPC lead this term.

If you are interested or have questions about the role, please email Hannah Jenns  hjenns@clayfield.qld.edu.au

Year 3 Poetry

Year 3 have been writing some spectacular poems in their unit of Poetry.

Blue as an ocean, a deep inky abyss,

Mysterious creatures living in bliss,

No interruptions, something we are sure they don’t miss,

Their world is hidden and so it will persist.

Asher Amarasekara

Red is Christmas, bells are ringing.

Everybody is singing.

Extra high and extra low,

Santa is coming, ho ho ho.

Elsie Slaughter

Jacarandas watch them grow,

When the wind blows watch them flow,

Falling down like purple snow,

When they fall on the ground never in a row,

Jacarandas watch them grow.

Primary Music Celebration Assembly

We are delighted to announce that the Primary Music Celebration Assembly will be held on Tuesday 4 November, led by our 2025 Music Leaders. This special event provides an opportunity to celebrate our talented young musicians and acknowledge their contributions to the co-curricular music program throughout the year.

All Primary students currently involved in an ensemble will receive a certificate on stage. In addition, students who have shown exceptional commitment through excellent rehearsal attendance and participation in every performance will be awarded a Music Badge, which will be presented during their ensemble rehearsal.

This year, we are also excited to introduce Best Musician Awards for each ensemble, chosen by the ensemble directors to recognise outstanding musicianship and dedication.

Our Year 3 students will perform a set of tunes to share what they have learned through the curriculum string immersion program, and we will enjoy solo performances from Louis Chen (Year 6) on piano and Lia Lee (Year 6) on flute.

All families are warmly invited to attend and join us in celebrating the wonderful musical achievements of our primary students.

Speech Night

Speech Night is on Tuesday 18 November, where all Year 6 students who are continuing onto Secondary School at Clayfield College will take part in a special presentation.

The entrance to the Prep and Pre-Prep Centre off Gregory Street near Gate 2 will be slightly disrupted again in the coming weeks while the pathway upgrade project is completed. A concrete pour is scheduled for Monday 10 November and in early December, a colour coating will be added. While works are in progress, the main entry doors to the Prep and Pre-Prep classrooms will be closed, and all access to the classrooms will be through the playground gates closest to our Palm Grove Playground. The pathway from Gregory Street to OSCH and the Prep/Pre-Prep playground gates will be open as usual. Thank you in advance for your support and patience in accommodating these changes.

Helping Hands in the Playground

Wearing bright orange vests, our Year 6 Playground Helpers are making a big impact by supporting teachers on duty, engaging students who may feel left out, and helping resolve minor playground disputes with empathy and care.

This Student Representative Council initiative was created in response to the need for more connection and support during playtime. It’s been a wonderful way for our Senior students to build relationships across year levels, showcase their leadership, and serve as positive role models in our school community.

Our Year 6 leaders are finishing strong!
