School Performance Report 2025
Schools received the 2025 Performance Reports from the Department of Education recently, and BSPS proudly remains in the “High” overall performance category. Our Learning outcomes measures have continued to improve, and we maintained our strong results in the Wellbeing measures, which is fantastic news. I’d like to thank the School Improvement Team and all our wonderful staff for their dedication, care and commitment to providing the best possible school experience for our students!
2026 already?
Planning is well underway for next year, and we are in the process of finalising recruitment and team staffing structures for our 2026 program. We are planning for 2 Foundation classes, and there will be 4 classes at 1/ 2, 3/ 4 and 5/ 6 respectively. We are at capacity in the junior school
for next year, and have unfortunately needed to decline some out-of-zone applications. Learning Areas will remain in the same spaces next year, and we look forward to sharing teaching teams
and class groupings as part of our whole school step-up days in December. There will be a section in the next newsletter introducing our newest team members.
A further update: Primary to secondary Italian language and transition pathways
Following on from my previous notizie about our promising partnership with Thornbury High School, Chiara and I are looking forward to spending some time in the year 9 Italian Immersion class at Thornbury High on Monday morning. We'll be catching up with some ex-BSPS students too, of course!
Also, Chiara and I have since met with Trevor Smith, Principal at Princes Hill Secondary College. We highlighted BSPS graduates as cognitively agile students eager to continue their Italian studies, with families invested in a strong secondary pathway where students can continue to build upon the skills they’ve developed throughout their bilingual primary school years.
PHSC are keen to build a stronger transition program between our schools, including opportunities for senior Italian LOTE students to work with BSPS students. The planning process for the first of these visits is now underway. Currently, there is no advanced Italian class, but PHSC staff are working on increasing differentiation in their Italian LOTE program to provide greater challenge and motivation for BSPS graduates and other students with Italian language foundations. The intention is that teachers from both our schools will collaborate to ensure careful sequencing of skills across Year 6 and Year 7 for a more aligned transition. We also look forward to seeing some PHSC student bands perform at this year’s Festa di Primavera for the first time - including BSPS alumni!
We are committed to nurturing our students’ Italian skills and seeing their language journey flourish well beyond BSPS, and to ensuring the smoothest transition from primary to secondary school.
Inaugural BSN Soccer World Cup
Our Year 5/6s are buzzing with excitement for tomorrow’s tournament at the Darebin International Sports Complex. What a wonderful opportunity to get to know students from the other bilingual schools across Melbourne and enjoy a kick of soccer, while proudly representing Insieme United in BSPS pink! Spectators are most welcome to come along and cheer them on!
Huge thanks to Jack, Meerah and Nick for their efforts and energy in preparing for this world first event!
Ciao for now,
Kristie
