Because She Can

Last week, our Year 9 girls had the wonderful opportunity to take part in the Because She Can event, organised by the inspiring Belinda. The event focused on building confidence, celebrating strengths, and reminding every young woman that she is capable of achieving incredible things.

The event featured former Year 9 students who bravely shared their personal stories, challenges and successes. Hearing directly from young women who once stood exactly where they are now gave our students real, relatable insight into resilience, courage and self-belief.

A Q&A panel followed, led by some of our very own Year 9 girls, who asked thoughtful and engaging questions that sparked meaningful conversation. The event also included a beautiful musical performance by Olivia Lay, adding a warm and heartfelt touch to the afternoon. To top it off, the girls enjoyed a delicious Subway lunch while connecting with each other and reflecting on what they’d learned.

It was a meaningful, empowering experience for all involved, and we are grateful to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success.

Bairnsdale Boys Bring the Heat Against Orbost

Our Year 9 Bairnsdale boys hit the oval with strength, spirit, and serious determination as they took on Orbost in a competitive school footy clash. From the first bounce, our boys showed teamwork, grit and a whole lot of heart, pushing hard through every contest. Despite tough opposition, the group held their own with strong defensive pressure, smart ball movement and plenty of moments worth cheering for on the sidelines. The game was a great chance for the boys to put their skills into action, support each other, and represent the school proudly. And ... our Bairnsdale boys took home the win!

Well done to all players for giving it their all and showcasing true Bairnsdale pride!

Canoe Crew - Year 9 Hit the River

Our Year 9 students hit the water this week for a fun and challenging canoeing experience. Working in pairs, they learned to communicate, keep balance, and paddle with purpose, while sharing plenty of laughs along the way.

From calm stretches to trickier sections, students pushed themselves, supported each other, and enjoyed a great day outdoors. It was a fantastic chance to build confidence, teamwork, and memories on the water.

Ride the Tide, Year 9 Take On the Waves!

Our Year 9 students swapped the classroom for the coastline this week, heading out to catch some waves and learn the basics of surfing. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students were introduced to essential surf safety, board handling, and wave awareness before hitting the water.

Once they paddled out, the determination was strong, and the laughter was louder. Some students popped up on their boards straight away, while others perfected the art of ‘spectacular wipeouts’ but every one of them showed resilience, courage, and a willingness to try something new.

Beyond the surfing skills, the day was a brilliant chance for the cohort to build confidence, support each other, and enjoy a little adventure together in the great outdoors. By the end of the session, our beginners were riding waves with pride.

Clontarf Crew Cooking Up a Killer Morning Feed

Our Clontarf boys were up bright and early on Wednesday morning, cooking and serving delicious bacon and egg burgers for all staff. With the barbecue fired up and the boys working together, they moved through the morning rush like absolute pros. Flipping, grilling, and assembling breakfast with big smiles and even bigger teamwork. It was a fantastic way to kickstart the day and a thoughtful gesture that everyone appreciated. A huge thank you to the Clontarf crew for their effort, organisation, and the tasty mid-week morale boost!

Goodbye and Goodluck

As we reach the end of Year 9, it’s impossible not to reflect on the growth, energy and resilience the Year 9 cohort has shown. From the classroom to excursions, projects, challenges and celebrations, our students have stepped up time and time again. This year wasn’t just about finishing their middle schooling, it was about discovering strengths, building confidence and learning what it means to be part of a team.

On Monday 1st December, our Year 9 students officially begin their Head Start program and transition into Year 10. This next chapter brings new opportunities, new responsibilities and a chance to dive deeper into their learning pathways. We are incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved so far, and we know they will continue to thrive as they move into senior school.

Thank you to our students for their hard work, their spirit and the contributions they’ve made to our school community this year. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish next! We will miss you all greatly, please don’t be strangers.

From Belinda, Bec, Erin, Megan and Jemma

College Uniform Expectations

As always, most of our students continue to wear the correct school uniform.

We kindly ask all families to ensure that students are in full school uniform each day. We are still completing large orders of uniform. If you need any support in sourcing uniform items, please don’t hesitate to contact Jemma in the Year 9 Hub.

Students who arrive at school out of uniform will be provided with the appropriate items and expected to wear them during the school day.

Thank you for your ongoing support.

For your reference, the uniform policy and price list are included below as well as examples of correct uniform.

Phones at School: What You Need to Know

In accordance with the Department of Education Mobile Phones Policy, students must not use their mobile phones at Bairnsdale Secondary College during school hours, including Break 1 and 2, unless an exemption has been granted by the Principal.

Students may need to bring a personal mobile phone to school, for example if travelling independently to and from school. If students bring a mobile phone to school they must be switched off and stored securely in their locker all day, including Break 1 and 2. Mobile phones are considered valuable items and are brought to the school at the owner’s risk.

For further information the BSC Mobile Phones Policy is located on the College website.
