Year 5 & 6
Around our level
This past fortnight has seen the students participating in a variety of activities. The Year 6 girls team advanced to the next round in the Hoop Time basketball competition and competed at Nunawading Basketball Stadium. They showed great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day. A big thank you to Jordan for coaching the team, and to Amanda for scoring and supporting the players. Students from Years 3 to 6 also had a fantastic time at the Halloween Disco, enjoying dancing, Halloween tattoos, and creating designs with face gems. On the Monday before Cup Day, students who were at school took part in a fun and creative day, researching the different public holidays celebrated around the world and designing their own choice of models using a variety of classroom materials.
We certainly don’t slow down in 5/6! Over the next month, our Year 5 students who are interested in a captaincy position, will take part in the selection process, which includes preparing speeches and attending interviews.
The Year 6 students have several exciting events coming up, including their Fun Day at MSAC on December 4 and their Graduation ceremony. Next week is Swimming Week, and we’re also looking forward to our much anticipated Bazaar on December 15.

The halloween disco was really fun! My friends and I dressed up as Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore and Piglet and we all were wearing onesies for the characters and tutus. They played really good songs and my friends and I danced and sang really loudly. Overall it was a really fun disco.

Recently I had Hoop Time on Thursday and we won all our games except the last one. We played at Nunawading Stadium and my coach was Jordan/Ivy's dad. He was really good. Then my mum/Amanda was scoring all our games. Overall I loved it. It was a fun last Hoop Time.

On Halloween we got to dress up in our costumes for school. I came as a banana by the way. I got to see all the awesome costumes, and after some hours I went to the Halloween disco. It had some cool tattoos, music and balloons. After school I went to do Trick or Treating.
- Hunter L
For the Halloween Disco I dressed up as Ghostface, but I didn’t have the mask. I went Trick or Treating with my friends Jai, Xavier and Xander. It was lots of fun. We got heaps and heaps of lollies. At the end of Trick or Treating we watched a scary movie.

Last weekend I went to Phoenix vs Melbourne. It was Phoenix's home game.
I had the best time and there was a phoenix band. I went to say hi to the band people.

The halloween disco was the best, there were so many good songs like Thunderstruck, Fein, Veggie Dance; yeah it was the best. Everything that we have done recently has been so much fun.

I loved the Halloween Disco especially because it was run by my dance school. But it was VERY loud. Bizarre Bazarre is coming along nicely but we don't have long until we need to be selling our items.
The Year 6 team activities are super fun and I always look forward to the sessions. I am really looking forward to graduation but I will miss Yarra Road!

As I am really sporty, I have been doing tennis competitions. They are on Saturday mornings even if it is gloomy, dark, sunny or whatever the weather may be, I still do it. At school, PE has been fun. I’m looking forward to a gymnastic person coming to our school. In music I've been liking practising our Christmas song for the concert.

The Year 5 leadership course has been so fun. I love doing all of the different activities and it's so good that everyone gets to have a go at everything!

The cup day weekend was great fun. I really enjoyed the extra day off. We went for a swim in the pool and watched TV all day long. I did not watch the cup race though.
The Halloween disco was great fun, dancing to the music and getting face gems and tattoos.

Recently we had the Halloween Disco. It lasted just over two hours, and although it was a day disco it was surprisingly fun. We played lots of songs and at the end we got to pick our own to play. We did a lot of dancing and were really tired after. Since I'm a captain I helped pack up all the Halloween spider webs and other decorations. It was a good disco for my last one.

I have been doing the Year Five leadership course where we talk about what makes a good captain and what values we should be showing. I like doing this leadership program because I want to be a captain. Even if we don't want to be a captain we still need to be in the course because we will all be leaders of the school next year and this helps us understand our strengths.

Recently, I went to hoop time regionals for the first time and I had so much fun. We started off the day with some shooting warm ups before our first game. In our first game, it was really close throughout the whole game. At the end, it was a tie. 9-9. Our second game was a lot easier than the first and we ended up winning. The score was 28-4. Due to the scores of those last games, we made it to the semi finals. We played a team who were all very good and hard to play against. We did end up winning, but it was a hard journey to get there. In the grand final, we played a team with players up to nearly 6 foot tall! We did end up losing the grand final and our chance at state, but it overall was a great day. 10/10
