Prep

Around Our Level

This week in Prep, we have been undertaking assessments in Literacy and Maths. We have been learning about the diagraphs ('ck', 'sh', and 'th', voiced and unvoiced).

In Maths, we have been learning about ‘position words’ and following directions using vocabulary, such as 'above', 'below', 'beside', 'between' etc. We have continued to revise ordinal numbers and numbers to 20.

In Geography, we have been learning about relics from the past and have enjoyed heirlooms from Mia’s grandma, which have included an old-fashioned ventriloquist doll and a wooden Pinocchio toy. We discussed the difference between toys of today, made from plastic, as compared to wooden toys from the past.

We have been enjoying the children’s ‘Me in a Bag’ presentations, and learning more about their interests, hobbies, and families. Our students have been working hard to use a clear and confident voice, to use eye contact, and to be an engaged and attentive audience when others are speaking.

On Tuesday the 11th of November, we commemorated Remembrance Day with a live broadcast on the loud-speaker system, which was conducted by our School Captains, Charlee and Aisha. We stopped for a minute’s silence to pay our respects to past and present veterans, to honour their service, and to reflect on the sacrifices they have made for our country.

Next week we will be undertaking our whole school Swimming Program at Aqua Hub in Croydon, which will focus on water confidence and water familiarisation, skill development, and water safety.  This is a great opportunity to revise and learn new skills before the summer months. We hope to see lots of parent helpers at the pool to assist us in the changerooms. If you can help, please let your child’s classroom teacher know.

Our Junior School Council is supporting the Salvation Army this term as our community charity. Classes are collecting food items, non-perishables, new toys, games, and monetary donations. These will be presented to the Salvation Army at our special assembly at the end of the year. Our students have discussed being generous and supporting others, and each child will be rewarded with house points if they contribute to their class collection boxes. We would really appreciate and value your support towards the Salvation Army hampers.

The children have been practising and rehearsing for our Prep Alphabet Concert, which will be on the 12th of December. We are very excited to perform these songs and dances to you in the coming weeks. Students are encouraged to wear costumes that they already have, and come dressed as that letter (eg 'b' for batman or ballerina). We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate the culmination of the children’s learning this year.
