Year 4

Our Year 4 students have been diving into the fascinating world of ancient engineering this term as they explored the history and science of catapults. From their origins in ancient warfare to their modern uses in science and technology, students discovered how these clever machines have stood the test of time.

The class learned about the concepts of stored (potential) energy and kinetic energy — and how these forces work together to launch objects through the air. Using a range of materials, they then designed and built their own catapults, testing different designs to see which could launch a projectile most accurately. The catapults were made in the lead up to Halloween so they were tasked with launching a plastic round eyeball into either a witch's cauldron or a pumpkin bucket!

The excitement was palpable as students refined their models and made predictions. It was a wonderful combination of history, science, and creativity — and a fantastic example of learning through investigation and teamwork!

Year 6

Our Year 6 students have been putting their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test as they took on the challenge of designing a new product for the pet industry.  This project is part of their Entrepreneurs & Innovators studies which was initially started in their classrooms where students brainstormed ideas to make life easier, safer, or more enjoyable for pets and their owners.

Students used Tinkercad a 3D design website, Canva or sketch books to design their products.

Once their designs were finalised, students moved into the creation phase, using a wide range of materials and cutting tools to bring their prototypes to life. From innovative bathing containers to clever toys, apps and accessories, each group is displaying impressive teamwork, design thinking, and practical skills.

This ongoing project provides an exciting opportunity for students to combine creativity, technology, and hands-on construction, while learning about product design and real-world problem-solving.
