Year Two

Dear Year Two Families,
As we approach the middle of Term Four, the Year Two students have been busy engaging in lots of exciting learning experiences and activities.
Reading
In Reading, students have been enjoying Storm Boy by Colin Thiele. So far, we have read Chapters 1 and 2 of the text. Students have been exploring the unique setting of the Coorong and discussing the traits of the main characters. We have also been making personal connections with the story, particularly how the main character shows care and responsibility towards an animal. Students have reflected on their own experiences of caring for pets or animals in their lives, helping them relate deeply to the story’s themes.
Writing
In Writing, students have been learning how to create persuasive texts. They have been focusing on using the correct structure, including an introduction, reasons, examples, and a conclusion. Students have also explored words of modality to make their writing more convincing and have practised using connectives to link their ideas clearly. Through this, they are learning how to express their opinions and persuade others effectively.
Mathematics
This term, students have been learning about time. They have explored calendars to find important dates and practised reading and showing time on an analogue clock. Students have focused on o’clock, half past, quarter past, and quarter to, and have matched these times with digital clocks to strengthen their understanding.
Inquiry
In Inquiry, students have begun a new unit under the transdisciplinary theme How the World Works. They have been using their research skills to learn about natural disasters and have investigated how these events impact communities. Over the coming weeks, students will begin to make deeper connections as they explore how communities respond to and recover from disasters.
