Year 9
'Connection to self, school & community'
The excitement was high as our year 9 cohort flocked to Berwick Station, ready to embark on their long-awaited City Experience. From the moment students stepped off the train at Federation Square, Melbourne became their classroom and playground.
A major highlight was the Amazing Race, which saw students racing through the CBD with determination and creativity. Mandatory checkpoints included attempting the ‘Bowling Gary’ at the MCG, engaging with the iconic buskers of Bourke Street Mall, skating alongside Mr Coe at Riverslide Skate Park, and recreating Melbourne’s most famous street art in the vibrant Hosier Lane.

Across the week, students immersed themselves in Melbourne’s rich cultural landscape. Groups explored the National Gallery of Victoria, took in the sweeping views at the Eureka Skydeck, delved into sporting history at the MCG Sports Museum, discovered science and history at the Melbourne Museum, experienced large-scale cinema at IMAX, and sampled a huge variety of restaurants, cafés, laneways, and hidden gems that make our city so unique.
Critical thinking was on full display as students navigated trains, trams and busy city streets to find the most efficient routes between activities. Their teamwork and problem-solving skills shone as they mapped out paths to see as many sites as possible.
A special community touch came through the Hosier Lane Street Art Challenge, where students created their own artworks and invited the wider community to vote for their favourites. The response was fantastic and added an extra layer of excitement to the experience.
The Year 9 Team is incredibly proud of how all students represented themselves and the college. Their maturity, enthusiasm, and willingness to step outside their comfort zones made this City Experience not only a major success, but a memorable milestone in their school journey.
