We are excited to share that our recent House Tournament raised $964.25 for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. We are looking forward to raising even more next week at our Athletics Carnival (see details below).

Earlier this month, we recognised International Women’s Day, a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, while also continuing the call for gender equality.

To mark the occasion, our students participated in a mini lesson prepared by our Respectful Relationships representative, Ms Fennell. This lesson was delivered across the school by our teachers and focused on the importance of equality, respect and inclusion in our everyday lives. Students were also encouraged to reflect and select a personal pledge outlining how they would actively promote gender equality through their actions and interactions.

Our school staff also joined in the initiative, coming together at lunchtime to create and share their own pledges in support of this important message. We thank Ms Erjavec for organising the day and Ms Fennell for creating an engaging lesson that reinforced our school’s commitment to respect and equality.

Last year, our Art & Design Captain, Cheryl Chow, dedicated a huge amount of time to creating a mural in celebration of International Women's Day.

The project began as a whole school activity in Term One, with students writing heartfelt messages on colourful heart-shaped notes about a woman they admire. From there, Cheryl worked on the mural each week, carefully placing each heart to bring the piece to life.

In designing the mural, Cheryl ensured the most meaningful words stood out, while keeping the colours balanced and visually appealing. The final result is a striking artwork that puts students’ messages of appreciation at its centre.

The mural is now on display around the College, starting in the staffroom, and has become our first touring artwork.

A massive congratulations and thank you to Cheryl for her tremendous creativity, dedication and hard work.

Last week, we celebrated Harmony Week across the school, with lots of activities that recognised different cultures and brought everyone together.

Harmony Week is about including everyone, showing respect and making sure people feel like they belong, no matter their culture or background. It is a chance to recognise and celebrate the different cultures in our community and remind ourselves that everyone is welcome.

Throughout the week, we arranged some great activities to celebrate our cultural diversity:

  • A Smoking Ceremony led by Nathan Taylor, our Koorie Cultural Worker, where we learned about and showed respect for Aboriginal culture.

  • Amazing performances from our Island Vibes club, who shared a range of cultural dances.

  • A cultural dress parade, where students wore and shared traditional outfits from different countries.

  • Our main event, the Melting Pot Buffet on Thursday, with a delicious variety of foods from different cultures - such an incredible highlight of the week.

  • A fun Foreign Language Activity hosted by Hanh Tran, our International Student Program Coordinator, giving students the chance to explore languages from around the world.

In addition, students participated in a daily cultural quiz featured in the student bulletin. The prize was a family pass to Moonlit Sanctuary, which was won by Chahat from 10A. Congratulations, Chahat! We hope you have an amazing time enjoying the wildlife experience.

Harmony Week reminded us that our differences make our school stronger, and that we can learn a lot from each other.

GRIP Leadership Conference

On Wednesday, 25 March, a group of our SRC students had the opportunity to attend the GRIP Student Leadership Conference, a full-day event designed to empower young leaders to make a real impact within their schools.

The GRIP Conference is unique in its focus on practical, “right now” leadership skills. Through engaging sessions, our students explored strategies, ideas and tools that will help them lead initiatives and improve experiences for their peers. They gained valuable advice, confidence and a clear vision for their roles as school leaders, leaving with dozens of actionable ideas to put into practice.

This experience was not only inspiring but also invaluable in equipping our SRC cohort with the skills and motivation to drive meaningful change across the school community. We can’t wait to see them put their new skills into action.

SRC Athletics Carnival Barbecue - 2 April

To finish off the term, the SRC is excited to host a barbecue at the Athletics Carnival on the last day of term (2 April). This is always a fantastic day filled with house spirit and friendly competition and this year, it is all for a great cause.

All funds raised from the barbecue will be donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, supporting vital care for children and their families. We encourage everyone to come along, grab something delicious and support this incredibly worthwhile cause.

It’s been a fantastic month of celebration and we look forward to continuing this momentum into next term!

Yesterday, a group of our Indigenous students had the opportunity to attend 'Your Future, Our Focus' at Monash University. This event is designed to help secondary students explore pathways to further study, learn about university life and see what opportunities are available for their future, particularly with a focus on supporting Indigenous students into higher education. It gives students a chance to experience university activities, talk to current students and staff and think about what they might like to study one day.

During the day, our students took part in a variety of hands-on activities, including making a pinch pot, robotic dog and a medical scavenger hunt.

These activities not only made the day fun, but also gave students a taste of the kinds of learning and discovery that university can offer.

Well done to all the students who represented our school today - it was a great chance to think about future study options and get a feel for university life!
