In the Art Room this term, painting and drawing are coming alive! Year 1 students are exploring colours, shapes, and patterns to create fun and imaginative artworks. Year 3 are experimenting with different materials and textures to make their ideas jump off the page. Year 5 are combining techniques to design bold and creative pieces, while Year 6 are planning and refining their artworks, using paints, pencils, and mixed materials to bring their ideas to life. Everyone is having fun sharing their creations and discovering new ways to be creative!
🎨 Year 1 Primary and Secondary Sailboat Paintings
Year 1 students created Primary and Secondary Sailboat paintings inspired by Stella Blackstone.
They learned how to mix two primary colours to create secondary colours and practised using watercolours effectively. Students focused on applying smooth brush strokes and completed a self-assessment using a rubric to reflect on their work.
🎨 Year 3 Indian Inspired Camel Artwork
In Year 3, students created detailed Indian inspired camel artworks using oil pastels and watercolours. They traced and coloured the camel using brown oil pastel, added decorative patterns with bright colours, and carefully filled spaces to avoid leaving white gaps. Students painted contrasting watercolour backgrounds and enhanced the camel’s fur with darker paint to create richness and depth. They finished by self-assessing their work using a rubric.
🎨 Year 5 Storm Tossed Vessel Painting
In Year 5, students created Storm Tossed Vessel inspired artworks while exploring colour and value. They created tints by blending white with different coloured paints and worked to achieve strong contrast between light and dark blues. Students painted dramatic rain and cloudy skies using dark blue and grey tones, and added a splatter effect to the sky and waves using the splatter technique. They enhanced wave highlights with white oil pastel and refined details using black paint or black oil pastel. Students concluded the unit by self-assessing their work using a rubric and receiving teacher feedback.
