Sacrament News

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION:

The Sacrament will take place on Tuesday 18th August at St Joseph’s Church.  If you would like to take this opportunity, it will then allow your child to receive the Sacraments of Confirmation & Eucharist next year.

An Enrolment & Information night will be held next Monday July 20 at 5.00pm in the Libraryat school. This night is for parents to come along and hear some information about the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to enrol their child/children in the program.  Please bring a copy of your child’s Baptism Certificate on the night.  The cost of the program will be $10.00 which is also payable on the night.

The preparation will take place over 4 weeks.  This will involve Group and individual sessions.  We are looking for parents to host and lead group meetings during the program.  Please consider if you can assist in this role and let me know prior to the Enrolment & Information night if possible.

If you would like your child to be involved in this process, you will need to attend the information night and enrol your child in the Preparation Program.

To be able to receive this Sacrament, your child must be a Baptised Catholic.  If your child is not Baptised, and you would like them to be, please contact me.

If you have any questions regarding the program, please don’t hesitate to contact me at school on 5443 2108 or via email enally@sjquarryhill.catholic.edu.au

GOSPEL

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.

Let them grow together until the harvest.

Jesus put a parable before the crowds, ‘The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everybody was asleep his enemy came, sowed darnel all among the wheat, and made off. When the new wheat sprouted and ripened, the darnel appeared as well. The owner’s servants went to him and said, “Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed in your field? If so, where does the darnel come from?” “Some enemy has done this” he answered. And the servants said, “Do you want us to go and weed it out?” But he said, “No, because when you weed out the darnel you might pull up the wheat with it. Let them both grow till the harvest; and at harvest time I shall say to the reapers: First collect the darnel and tie it in bundles to be burnt, then gather the wheat into my barn.”’

Children discussion starters

A beginning point for discussion of this week's Gospel with children:

Who has seen weeds in a garden?

What is the difference between a weed and a plant?

When you care for a plant, the weeds still grow.

In today’s gospel what did the farmer do when he found weeds in his crop?

The farmer didn’t want to damage the good crop by destroying the weeds

God is like the farmer. What are the good things God looks for in us?

We pray that the Spirit helps the good in us to grow.

Staff Spirituality Day

Wednesday 5th August. Pupil free day for students.

On this day all schools will be gathering in hubs across our diocese as part of our Catholic Mission and faith development. We will be listening to guest speakers as well as participating  in a variety of workshops. We look forward to this opportunity to gather together and strengthen and learn more about our role as Catholic teachers within the diocese of Sandhurst.
