Romeo and Juliet
Mrs Wright’s students have successfully completed a 10-week introductory unit on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The program explored the play’s universal themes and characters, connecting them to students’ personal and social experiences. Through accessible texts, engaging multimedia resources, and supported composition activities, students developed confidence in reading, analysing, and creating texts. Mrs Wright designed an engaging assessment task that addressed appropriate learning outcomes while allowing students to demonstrate their understanding and to achieve success through alternative, non-traditional means. As a result, students achieved significant growth, showing clear improvement in essential communication, comprehension, and creative expression skills that support everyday life and ongoing learning.
Connecting With Real-Life
Ms Jess and students are connecting real-life, hands-on activities with the technological world. Throughout Term 2, they planted seeds and carefully selected locations for different vegetables based on sunlight in each garden bed. They have tended to these vegetables as they grew. Each student then designed and drew their own vegetable garden, taking into account the time of year and suitable vegetable choices. After completing their designs, students transferred their plans into Minecraft, creating virtual farms complete with animals, housing, and gardens. They further enhanced their learning by using the vegetables they grew to prepare homemade foods, such as pizza.
Fun End to Term 2
At the end of Term 2, we kicked off the celebrations with a delicious barbecue cooked by our IEC senior students! Our brave teachers then took centre stage, letting students dye their hair in wild colours as a reward for outstanding school attendance! The students’ enthusiasm with the hair dyeing sometimes got in the way of structure, but it made for a fantastic atmosphere and unforgettable memories. The smiles say it all—well done everyone!
