2026 NSWCHSSA State Golf Championships

Last week, James D had the honour of representing the North West region at the 2026 NSWCHSSA State Golf Championships, held at Magenta Shores Golf Course and Shelly Beach Golf Club on the Central Coast.

The event brought together some of the best school-aged golfers from across New South Wales, providing a fantastic opportunity to compete at a high level while meeting students who share a passion for golf. Both courses were challenging, with Magenta Shores requiring strategic course management and Shelly Beach testing players with its coastal conditions and demanding layout.

Throughout the championships, James focused on staying positive, making smart decisions on the course and learning from each round. He was pleased to finish the event with his best round on the final day, shooting 85 gross (79 net) which reflected the improvements he made over the week.

The North West boys’ team worked well together and finished 7th overall in the teams competition. James was proud to represent both his region and his school, demonstrating sportsmanship, resilience and perseverance throughout the tournament.

The experience helped James develop not only his golfing skills but also his confidence and ability to compete under pressure. He is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the championships and looks forward to continuing to improve his game and hopefully represent the North West region again in the future.

Rugby 7's

On Wednesday 24 June, our U18 Boys Rugby team braved the cold at the University of New England and showed incredible determination, winning two of their four matches, despite many players having limited rugby experience.

They kicked off with a strong 28–7 win over Glen Innes, then faced the eventual tournament winners Warialda in a thrilling match, narrowly losing 35–28 after a last-second try. In game three, they battled a larger O’Connor High side, matched them throughout, but went down 35–28.

The team finished the day on a high, securing a hard-fought 35–31 victory against Warialda in a spirited rematch.

Congratulations to our U16 Boys Rugby 7's team, who travelled to Moree for the All Schools Rugby 7s Tournament and finished the day undefeated! Their remarkable performance has earned them a place in the State Finals at Tuggerah next term.

The boys kicked off with a 28–5 victory over Holy Trinity, followed by a dominant 47–5 win against St Phillies Moree. In a nail-biting match against Narrabri, they showed incredible grit to claim a thrilling 14–12 victory. They rounded out the day with a stylish 43–7 win over Moree, completing an unbeaten tournament.

A special mention goes to every player who competed in all four matches without substitutions in very hot conditions. Their resilience, determination, and outstanding team spirit were key to their success. 

One of the tournament highlights was seeing Kailan L. score a well-deserved try in the final game under the posts!

Congratulations also goes to our Under 16 Girls Rugby team for an outstanding performance, securing their place in the All Schools Rugby Finals in Tuggerah this September!

The team played with confidence, intensity, and determination all day, earning their spot among the state's best. A special mention to Brooklyn E, the youngest player, who impressed with exceptional footwork, dominant counter-rucking, and a sharp eye for the try line.

Melita H was a constant attacking threat, combining powerful running, speed, and strong ball carries to score multiple tries. Olivia S stood out for her relentless tackling and elusive running, breaking through defences and making crucial tackles.

Ashleigh H contributed with strong carries and go-forward to keep the team’s momentum in attack. The entire squad – Megan S, Izabella C, Tori E, Tayla S, Aria M, and Milly M – showed true commitment, teamwork, and resilience throughout the carnival.

Next up: preparation and training ahead of the All Schools Rugby Finals in Tuggerah. We can't wait to see them build on this amazing performance!

Our Under 14 Girls Rugby team delivered an outstanding performance throughout the day, showcasing skill, determination, and resilience in every match.

Although they narrowly missed qualifying for the All Schools Rugby Finals in September—just falling short on points differential after finishing level with their rivals—their tremendous effort and teamwork shone through against strong opposition.

A special shoutout to Olivia P, who led by example with relentless tackling, strong counter-rucking, and some well-deserved tries. Her work rate and commitment were impressive in every game.

While the team just missed out on finals, their performances highlight the exciting future ahead for this talented and young group!

Under 15s Girls Basketball

Our Under 15s Girls Basketball team took on Macintyre High School on Tuesday, 23 June in a competitive and spirited match.

While the girls went down 32–52, they should be incredibly proud of their performance. The team played with determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout the game, and a fantastic achievement was that every member of the team contributed to the scoreboard.

Congratulations to all the girls on their effort and sportsmanship. We look forward to seeing the team continue to develop and build on this performance throughout the season.

Open Girls Netball

On Monday 22 June, our Open Girls Netball team travelled to Wee Waa for the Regional Semi-Final.

The match was intense with fantastic defence from both sides. Although Wee Waa High secured the win 40-32, our girls showed incredible sportsmanship throughout the game. As such a young team, there’s exciting potential for growth for Inverell High in the years ahead!
