The Moorabbin Primary School Community touch the land and think of the Bunurong People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.

We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.  

As we touch this land, we promise to treasure it, taking care of all its people, 

animals, plants and waterways.

R U OK? Day at MPS 💛

This week Moorabbin Primary School proudly acknowledged R U OK? Day, an important reminder that a simple question — “Are you OK?” — can open the door to meaningful conversations and let someone know that they are not alone. Throughout the day, our students were encouraged to think about the importance of looking out for one another, noticing when someone may not be themselves, showing kindness and taking the time to genuinely check in with friends, classmates and the people around them. 

These are important skills that help us build a caring, connected and supportive school community.

It was wonderful to see our students and staff actively participate in R U OK? Day and embrace the opportunity to focus on wellbeing, connection and kindness. Our staff modelled the importance of checking in with others, while our students participated enthusiastically and demonstrated that small acts of care and compassion can make a big difference. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day meaningful and reminded us that we all have a role to play in creating a community where people feel seen, heard, valued and supported. 💛

YEAR 1, YEAR 3 AND YEAR 4 EXPOSITIONS

Our Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4 Expositions were a wonderful celebration of learning, curiosity and student achievement, providing a meaningful culmination to the units of work students have been exploring throughout the term. Students were incredibly proud to invite their parents and carers into the school to share their learning and present their findings to a wider audience. These opportunities allowed students to move beyond simply completing classroom tasks and provided them with a genuine purpose for communicating what they had discovered, understood and created. It was fantastic to see our students confidently explaining their thinking, answering questions and sharing their knowledge with the people who are so important in their lives.

The Expositions also highlighted the breadth and depth of learning taking place across our classrooms. Students demonstrated their developing understanding of Humanities, Mathematics and the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt, while also being challenged to investigate, make connections, ask questions and solve problems. Through their projects, students were required to think critically about information, determine how to present their findings and consider how they could communicate their learning in ways that would engage an audience. This process encouraged students to expand their learning beyond the initial classroom activities, apply their knowledge in new contexts and develop greater independence in their learning. It was wonderful to see the pride students took in explaining not only what they had learned, but also how they had approached their learning and problem-solving.

Importantly, these Expositions provided our students with valuable opportunities to develop their public speaking, communication and presentation skills. Standing in front of others, explaining an idea, responding to questions and confidently sharing knowledge are important skills that students will continue to draw upon throughout their education and beyond. We were particularly proud to see students supporting one another, demonstrating enthusiasm for their learning and confidently welcoming their families into their classrooms. A sincere thank you to our Year 1, Year 3 and Year 4 teachers and students for the tremendous effort, creativity and commitment that went into these Expositions, and to our parents and carers for taking the time to attend, listen, ask questions and celebrate the achievements of our students. These events truly demonstrated the wonderful learning, capability and enthusiasm of our MPS students.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: DIGITAL COMMUNICATION AND SCHOOL NEWSLETTERS

As part of the Victorian Department of Education’s ongoing work to strengthen digital safety, privacy and the protection of children and young people online, schools are reviewing how student information, images and school communications are shared through digital platforms. This work is informed by the broader recommendations and guidance emerging from the eSafety Commissioner, particularly around children’s privacy, digital footprints, the responsible sharing of images and information, and the potential for publicly available content to be copied, reshared or accessed beyond its original intended audience. At Moorabbin Primary School, we take our responsibility to protect the privacy, safety and wellbeing of our students very seriously, and we are now working with our school council to review our practices to ensure they reflect current Department expectations and best practice.

As an initial step, from the beginning of next term our school newsletter will be distributed internally to our MPS community and will no longer be published publicly on our website or through publicly accessible channels. Families will continue to receive the newsletter through the COMPASS platform, ensuring that our community can access important school news, celebrations, upcoming events and information while providing greater protection around the information and images we share. This change reflects our commitment to being thoughtful and intentional about what information about our students and school community is made publicly accessible. We recognise that our students are at the heart of everything we do, and protecting their privacy and digital footprint is an important responsibility we share as a school community.

Next Steps: Our School Social Media pages

We will also be reviewing our Moorabbin Primary School social media pages as part of this work. While our social media will continue to be an important way of celebrating school life and sharing the wonderful learning, achievements and opportunities across MPS, the nature of the content we publish will change. We will be taking a more considered and intentional approach to student images, names, locations, activities and other information that may contribute to a child’s digital footprint or identify individual students. Where appropriate, our posts will focus more broadly on learning, school events, student experiences and community achievements rather than routinely featuring identifiable individual students. 

Student photographs and videos will therefore be used more selectively, with greater consideration given to the purpose of the post, the audience, the information accompanying an image and the potential for content to be copied, downloaded or reshared. These changes are about striking the right balance between celebrating our students and protecting their privacy, safety and digital footprint, and we will continue to review our social media practices in line with Department of Education requirements and current eSafety guidance.

Father’s Day stall thanks to Lisa S 💙🌟

A very special and heartfelt thank you for the incredible amount of time, energy and care Lisa put into organising this year’s Father’s Day Stall. 

What she does behind the scenes to make this event possible has been truly outstanding. Over multiple weekends, she has generously given up her own time to create, prepare, organise, sort, wrap and coordinate everything needed for the stall. From sourcing and putting together the gifts, to carefully organising the enormous amount of stock and ensuring everything was ready for our students, there has been so much work happening behind the scenes that our community may not have seen. It is a wonderful example of the care, generosity and commitment that makes our MPS community so special.

What makes this even more impressive is Lisa’s little crafty team that she has brought together along the way. 

From all of us at MPS, please pass on our “Thank you’s!” to every parent who gave up their weekends, came along to help prepare, sort and organise, and to all of our wonderful helpers who gave their time on the day. Your willingness to simply pitch in, get things done and work together made such a difference.

Events like the Father’s Day Stall don't just happen. They require hours of planning, preparation, creativity, organisation and an enormous amount of behind-the-scenes work. The joy on the children’s faces as they selected something special for their dads, grandfathers, stepdads, father figures and special people was a beautiful reflection of the effort that went into making the day so special.

Lisa, thank you for your generosity, leadership, commitment and incredible work ethic. You have gone above and beyond, and we are incredibly grateful. To the entire team of parents who supported, both in the lead-up and on the day, thank you. Your contribution is genuinely valued and appreciated. We are so fortunate to have parents who are willing to contribute so generously to the life of our school.

 Good afternoon parents and carers,

This is a friendly reminder that next Wednesday the 16th of September (last week of term), we are having a Teddy Bears Picnic and Board Games Day.

The community leaders have organized this fun day for all students to bring their teddies and/or board games in from home to share and play with together in the gymnasium. 

Students will also be able to eat their recess and lunch with their teddies during eating time in their classrooms. 

The community leaders have organized this day to promote a sense of belonging, community and fun for the last week of term! 

This is a NO dress up day. Teddies and board games only. 

We can't wait to see all your special teddies and board games next Wednesday!

Dental Van visiting Monday 14th September

LAST DAY OF TERM, Friday 18th September, finishing at 2.30pm.
