It's never easy keeping your horse in work during winter in the central west but four Kinross Wolaroi students did just that and headed to Sydney for the NSW Interschools Championships last month.
We had high hopes for Charlotte Pearce and her horse Jimmy. The pair have been doing so well in open EA competitions, coming off a fantastic win at the North West Equestrian Expo, Charlotte was competing in the 80cm combine training (dressage and showjumping). They did an awesome dressage test then unfortunately had a gear malfunction in the showjumping which meant she had to retire. We’ll put this down as a character building experience.
The planets aligned for Audrey Pearce and her horse Bea who won the 1.05cm CT. A fantastic result, as Audrey has worked very hard to bring this horse back to his best after a ligament injury over 12 months ago. Audrey has been campaigning her other horse, Chart, this year and has done extremely well on him in the open EA 95cm eventing. This has gained her a position on the NSW team with both horses!
And our wonderful equestrian captain, Isabella Llyod George, had her last hit out before her break from riding until after her HSC exams. Issy competed in the 90cm & 100cm showjumping. Beautifully ridden rounds, just a few unlucky rails put her mid field in her classes.
We wish Audrey and Amy all the best at the National Interschools Championships in September at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.
Congratulations to Annabel Arnot, Year 12, for her recent performances at the Australian championships. Anabel received a Bronze in the women's 200 Breaststroke, Silver as a member of the NSW 6x50 Relay team & Bronze in NSW 4x50 Relay.
Anabel was awarded the NSW Valour award for Leadership & Sportsmanship in recognition for service to the NSW team.

After finishing off Term 2 strong, girls rugby has seen mixed results since we returned from the term break.
On Saturday 26 July all three teams travelled to a wet and rainy Canberra to play Daramalan College across all fixtures. Having not faced Daramalan since Round 2 the 14s struggled against the elements and the strength of the Daramalan team and unfortunately lost 74-0, the girls are working hard to flip the score when they face them again in the final round of the regular season.
The 18s fixture did not go the way of the two blues, going down to a reformed Daramalan 48-22. The 16s had a dominant performance getting the W - 60-5, hoping to now string together some wins on the run to the finals.
Girls rugby ventured to the nation’s capital again on Saturday 2 August to face the historically dominant Tuggeranong Vikings. After a number of injuries and illness the 14s had to forfeit their fixture. After losing to the Vikings at home the 16s came in confident following last weeks win. The girls got off to a strong start scoring within the first few minutes of play. After fighting hard against, going back and forth with Vikings the 16s ended up losing 36-29. The last time the 18s met the Vikings, they got the win right on the siren, hoping to bounce back from last week's disappointing loss, the girls came out strong and disciplined, getting the well deserved win 53-29, sitting on top of the ladder the girls are building great momentum heading into the final rounds.
Round 11 sees the 14s and 16s face Trinity Catholic College at home whilst the 18s venture back down to Canberra for a repeat fixture against the Vikings.

After a four-week holiday break from competition, the KWS Boys Rugby program returned to the field with energy and intent, kicking off the final stretch of the season with a strong showing against Trinity Grammar School on Saturday 26 July. Across all age groups, there were promising signs of growth, with teams showing resilience, structure and a renewed hunger for match play.
That momentum set the stage for one of the biggest days on the calendar - The Redemption Round on Saturday 2 August against St. Stanislaus’ College. In front of a proud home crowd, our players rose to the occasion and delivered outstanding results across the board. It was a fitting farewell for our Year 12s in their final home game, with the 1XV, 2XV, 3XV and 4XV all securing memorable wins on Main Oval. The emotion and pride on display reflected the hard work these young men have put in over their Rugby journeys. There were also terrific results in the younger age groups, with victories for the 15A, 14B and 13A teams, and a hard-fought draw for the 13Bs. Our other teams showed noticeable improvement, with players continuing to develop their skills, confidence and team cohesion as the season progresses.
A heartfelt thank you to our Rugby Community - sideline staff, parents, supporters, Alumni and volunteers. Your contributions behind the scenes make Match Days like these possible, and wins like we had all the more meaningful and memorable. From setting up fields to manning BBQs, refereeing games, running water, or simply cheering from the sideline, your support is both felt and deeply appreciated.
As we now shift our focus to this weekend’s away clash with St. Aloysius’ College in Sydney, it’s time to take that home-ground energy on the road. The bagpipes are calling and the Chikka-lukka is echoing - a reminder of the pride, passion and purpose we carry in every jersey. Best of luck to all teams, both Boys and Girls - travel well, play hard and wear the Kinross Wolaroi jersey with strength in the city.

Thursday 31 July Rugby Round Up, powered by Sydney University Football Club, brought the KWS Rugby Community together on the Main Oval stands to celebrate the past week’s hard work and strong performances against Daramalan College and Trinity Grammar School. With energy building, it also set the tone for a determined Redemption Round clash against Vikings and Stannies on Sat Aug 2.
Congratulations to our Club-Wide 3, 2, 1 Point recipients:

Saturday August 2 marked a significant moment in the 2025 Kinross Wolaroi Rugby calendar with the final 1XV and 2XV Jersey Presentation for the season, held ahead of the final home fixture against St. Stanislaus' College. With Main Oval preparing to host its last matches for our Year 12s, the presentation was a fitting way to honour the legacy, commitment and pride that comes with pulling on the Kinross Wolaroi School Jersey.
In front of proud parents, coaches, staff, teammates and supporters, each 1XV and 2XV player was presented their jersey by a member of the 16s Rugby squad. More than a tradition, this moment represented the transfer of responsibility, pride and legacy - a powerful handover from those finishing their Rugby journey to those ready to rise. On the day, the connection between the Opens and the 16s was evident, a reminder that the strength of KWS Rugby lies not just in its players, but its shared purpose.
We were honoured to welcome back John Colgan as our guest speaker - dual 1XV player, former 1XV captain and esteemed member of the Class of ’09. Colgan spoke with passion about what it means to wear the jersey, the lessons Rugby teaches beyond the scoreboard and the lifelong connections forged on the field.
A special thank you also to the KWS Rugby Club for once again supporting the morning so generously. The bacon and egg rolls on offer were top class and helped set the tone for what would become a memorable and dominant day of Rugby across all grades.
The presentation reminded all present of the power of the KWS Jersey - not just as a uniform, but as a symbol of discipline, teamwork, resilience, spirit. As the 1XV and 2XV prepare to close out their seasons, this moment was a powerful reminder of what it means to represent Kinross Wolaroi School on the field - not just for now, but for life.
