Inquiry Term 3

Civics and Citizenship - What Do I Stand For?
This term, our inquiry focus is 'Civics and Citizenship', where our children will explore the foundations of democracy and what it means to be an active and informed citizen. We’ll begin by investigating what democracy is, how it works in Australia, and the roles and responsibilities at each level of government. Our children will then reflect on their own values and beliefs by asking, What do I stand for? — helping them to understand how personal perspectives shape civic life.
Building on this, we will work in teams to plan and run our own election campaigns. Our children will explore advertising techniques and persuasive strategies to promote their ideas, and participate in structured debates to strengthen their public speaking and critical thinking skills. Toward the end of the term, our children will apply their planning, collaboration and budgeting skills to design and run a stall for our Fun Fair. This event is a fundraiser for graduation, and gives us a real-world opportunity to take ownership of an idea, work as a team, and bring it to life in a fun and purposeful way.
