Writing in Year Two

Year Two students have had a fantastic start to Term 3, diving into procedural writing.

They have been learning how to write clear, step by step instructions to help others complete tasks such as brushing teeth, or creating simple craft projects. Students have been exploring the structure of procedural texts, which includes a title, goal, materials list, steps in order and a conclusion. They also used sequencing words like first, next, and finally, and learning the importance of using action verbs and adverbs. It's been wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow as they write their own procedures and follow their classmates' instructions too!

Please see the photos below of our exciting obstacle course activity. Students were challenged to follow a set of instructions to complete a "Ninja Obstacle Course" on our school playgrounds! This hands on experience helped the students understand how important clear, step by step directions are in procedural writing. After completing the course, students had the opportunity to write their own “How to Be a Ninja” procedural piece - using action verbs, sequencing words, and lots of imagination!
