Principal's Report

 - Tania Sorbello

Dear Families,

I would like to begin by sincerely thanking our school community for the many kind messages and thoughtful expressions of sympathy following the recent passing of my dad. Your support has meant a great deal to me and my family, and I am truly appreciative. I would like to thank Joe Dykes, Nicole, Emily and all of our dedicated staff for their support and care in leading the school during my recent absence. Their professionalism, teamwork and commitment ensured that everything continued to run smoothly, and I’m incredibly grateful.

We’ve had a very smooth start to Term 3, and I want to acknowledge our staff once again for creating such calm, purposeful learning environments where students have returned feeling settled and engaged.

So very very much happening here at FNPS in the coming weeks:

Leadership Announcement – Assistant Principal Appointment

We are very pleased to share that Joe Dykes has been appointed as our substantive Assistant Principal following a recent recruitment process. Joe brings deep experience, a collaborative mindset and a strong commitment to student learning and wellbeing. His appointment is richly deserved, and we are thrilled to see him formally step into this leadership role.

I would also like to thank Refi Balla and Linda Mitchell (Principal: Fitzroy High School) for their time and insight as panel members throughout the selection process.

School Review: A Time to Reflect and Plan Ahead

This week, we begin our formal School Review, which will take place over three key days:

  • Tuesday 5 August
  • Thursday 7 August
  • Thursday 15 August

The School Review is an exciting milestone in the life of our school. It provides an opportunity to reflect on our collective achievements over the past four years and, importantly, to look ahead — setting our strategic direction for the next phase of our journey.

As part of the review process, a panel of external reviewers will be visiting classrooms, engaging with students, staff and members of our parent and carer community, and facilitating a number of focus groups. These conversations are a vital part of the process, offering insight into what is working well and where we can continue to grow.

A huge thank you to Nicole Cooper for preparing for and coordinating the parent and community focus groups as part of the review during my absence.

School Production: A Creative Celebration in the Making

Excitement is building for this term’s School Production, and we would like to extend a huge thank you to Tanya, Evie, Molly W and Abbie for their outstanding work behind the scenes. From scriptwriting to guiding classroom rehearsals, their efforts have brought energy and creativity into every classroom.

We can’t wait to see this joyful celebration of student performance come to life at the end of term!

2026 Prep Enrolments

Last Friday marked the Department of Education’s closing date for Prep 2026 enrolments. First-round offers will be communicated to prospective families throughout this week, and a number of events are planned for the remainder of the year to support the transition to school process.

If you or someone you know is hoping to enrol at FNPS for next year, please contact the office for an enrolment pack and ensure your application is submitted as soon as possible.

This helps us to gain a clear understanding of our numbers for next year as we begin forward planning for 2026.

Student Support Fund – Thank You

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all families who have supported the FNPS Student Support Fund throughout the year. Your generous donations help ensure every child has the opportunity to participate in valuable learning experiences such as incursions, excursions, camps, the swimming program and our concert. We are incredibly grateful for your support.

Parent / Carer / Teacher Interviews - Wednesday this week

A reminder that our Parent / Carer / Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday 6 August 1:20pm – 6pm. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s learning progress, academic and social goals, and any individual supports in place, such as Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

We thank all families attending and encourage anyone unable to make their scheduled time to contact their child’s teacher to arrange an alternative.

**Please note: students will be dismissed from school at 12:45pm on this day. TheirCare is available for afternoon supervision if required.

As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. We look forward to keeping you updated as we move through this important and exciting term of learning, reflection and celebration.

Go gently,

Tania
