Excitement is building! In Term 3 our Library truly comes alive with wonderful events designed to bring literature to life. Our library has been decorated to reflect the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book Week theme Book an Adventure. Each class has been allocated a book from the CBCA Book of the Year Awards shortlist and students are transforming their classroom into a storytelling space! We look forward to inviting families along on the adventure after our Book Week parade on Thursday 21st August.

Scholastic Book Fair

Wednesday 13th - Friday 15th August 2025

Each year St Patrick’s engages with Scholastic to host a Book Fair in the lead up to Book Week. In Week 4 a ‘pop up’ style Book Fair will be set up in the Library. Students will visit the Book Fair to view books and other items for sale. Information on how to purchase items will be sent home on Compass and with your child. The Book Fair will be open to parents before school on Wednesday 13th - Friday 15th August and briefly after school on these days. Students whose parents cannot attend the Book Fair will come to the Book Fair during school hours.

All families who purchase goods are entered in our lucky door prize. The funds generated by Book Fair directly benefit our school. In 2024 we sold a record $15,000 worth of books thanks to the generosity of the St Patrick’s community! This allowed us to purchase new books and graphic novels for the library, and subsidised the costs of visiting authors to inspire our students.

Whilst Book Fair raises funds for our school we understand that all family circumstances are different and there is no pressure to purchase. Book Fair is just one of the many things we do! We are grateful for the many other ways our St Patrick’s community supports our library, be it borrowing books and using our digital collection, participating in our reading challenges or dressing up for Book Week.

Other exciting events coming up in Weeks 4 and 5 include our visiting authors, the St Pat’s Great Book Swap and our Whole School Simultaneous Silent Reading on the Playground. Please see Mrs Hill’s Book Week Information post on Compass for all dates and details. We look forward to seeing you!

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Our K-2 students have now completed the PRC in class. Parents do not need to register these students for the Challenge, they will be entered by St Patrick’s library staff. What a great start to their reading journey.

Congratulations to all our independent entrants in Years 3-6, we have had an amazing response in 2025! Just a reminder that the Challenge is coming to an end. For students in Years 3-6 please email engage.01908@sydstu.catholic.edu.au  when your child has completed the Challenge to obtain your log in details and new 2025 password. The Challenge closing date has been extended to Friday 12th September.

Each year, in recognition of their extra commitment to reading, our independent entrants are entered in a PRC raffle prize. If your child has entered their Reading Log and had it validated by Mrs Wainwright by Friday 15th August they will be entered in the raffle which will be drawn at our Book Parade on Thursday 21st August.
