Prep C

By La Ree Byrne

What a fabulous start we have had to Term Three! The Prep C classroom has been filled with excitement, learning, and lots of new experiences both in and out of the classroom.

In Literacy, we have been diving back into Initialit. We have been revisiting the letters and sounds we learned in Terms One and Two, and moving forward with new learning of vowels, digraphs, and other sounds. We are becoming more confident writers and now have many opportunities throughout the day to write sentences and share our ideas. We know that making mistakes is part of learning and even our teacher models this when writing sentences on the whiteboard. We are all learning together!

During Book Week, we bravely wrote our own stories using a magical golden book picture prompt. The excitement was contagious when we shared our writing with our Year 5 buddies. After planning, drafting, editing, and publishing, we became real authors and created a class storybook! This special book will be proudly displayed in the school library for everyone to enjoy.

In Mathematics, we switched over to being mathematicians! We explored numbers, addition, subtraction, grouping, and measurement.  We used ten frames, number tracks and drawings to represent our thinking. During the measurement unit a favourite activity was weighing small classroom items using balance scales and unfix cubes. We worked in teams to make estimates and then counted carefully to check the actual amounts.

Our Inquiry unit focused on communication. We discovered Indigenous symbols and their meanings in storytelling. Inspired by this, we became artists, creating our own symbols to share a special message about our families.

In PMP, we practised our catching, throwing, balancing, rolling, skipping, and hula hooping. These sessions help us to build motor skills, resilience, and confidence as well as, having lots of laughter along the way.

Each week, we have been perfecting walking silently in a line to the library. We show respect by not disturbing the Year One students doing their learning in their classrooms, the office staff, and of course, by showing Mr Catalano what wonderful role models we are becoming. At the library, we enjoy seeing Sabrina and Kathryn, and always look forward to choosing a special book to take home and share with our families.

We also celebrated Funky Feet Day, where we wore odd and colourful shoes and socks. This was not only lots of fun but also raised money to support the Jhapa Model English Language School in Nepal.

Finally, the absolute highlight of the term was our School Production! After lots of rehearsals, we took to the stage to perform our songs and dinosaur dance. We were so proud to show the audience and our families, what fabulous singers and dancers we have become. We also welcomed our student teacher Miss Cheng, as she inspired us with a combination of her love of learning and fun activities.

It has been such a busy, fun, and rewarding start to Term Three. We can’t wait to see what more learning adventures await us in the remainder of the Prep year.
