A Message from David & Cam

Book Week!

This week is Book Week and the school has been buzzing with excitement. Book Week promotes a love of reading and our staff and students have really embraced the week. There has been Storytime in the BER whereby staff have been reading books, a Book Sale, with all proceeds going to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, fabulous student-created door displays and a Book Week performance on Tuesday. As always, a highlight was our Book Week parade - what a wonderful morning! The students and staff looked fantastic!

JSC Book Swap Fundraiser for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation

Sarah and the JSC have been running the book sale all week. The sale has been a huge success and they have raised $400 with all funds raised going to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Great work JSC and thanks to everyone who supported this.

Class Door Displays

Here are all of the wonderful door displays across our school:

We would like to thank all the parents and carers and staff for supporting this event and making it the wonderful event that it is. We would also like to acknowledge and thank Carly, along with the library leaders and monitors who have worked tirelessly in the planning, preparation and running of the parade. It was fabulous!

School Events

Principal's Day

Last Friday was Principal's Day and we were were presented at assembly with very thoughtful and creative cards and books that were made for us by the students. A lovely  video was also made which was very thoughtful.

The level of effort that the students and staff put in for us was incredibly touching. We love what we do, love being a part of this wonderful school and feel so grateful and privileged to be able to work with all of our special young people and caring staff every day. Thank you!

What we learnt:

Instead of an Assistant Principal, Cam could be:

  • Le Bron James because he is big and strong

  • Captain Underpants!

  • A ballerina because pink looks good on him

  • A gymnast

David is so tall that:

  • doorways are his natural enemy

  • he was mistaken as a flagpole during recess

  • ceiling fans tremble when he walks by

  • he has to order special-order socks from the catalogue 'Clothes for giants and principals'

Dear Zoo!

The preps recently received a very special delivery from the zoo. There was so much excitement when the students collected the parcel and then opened it to find a pet stick insect inside!

STEM Fashion Show!

At our last assembly, we were treated to the STEM Fashion Show! The students in years 4/5 have been working collaboratively during STEM lessons to design and create items of clothing. Four very brave fashion models took to the stage, along with the excellent speakers (who practised all week!) and showcased the very practical, sensible and stylish items of clothing! It was a lot of fun - well done 4/5s!

Times Tables Rock Stars

Over the past fortnight, all classes from Years 2 to 6 took part in the Battle of the Bands, testing their times tables knowledge. We had an enthusiastic group of rockers giving their best effort to claim the title of Best Band in the School. It was fantastic to see so many students improving their speed and accuracy across all times tables. While every class gave their all, three emerged victorious in their year level battles: 2/3A, 4/5F and 6E. Congratulations to the winning classes and to all students who participated—keep practising and rocking your times tables!

Laverton District Athletics

Our top athletes students attended the Laverton District Athletics on Thursday 28th of August. We were able to gather a team of students to represent the school across a range of track and field events. The students all tried their best, encouraged each other, some achieved personal best results and a few students have qualified for the next level of competition, the Hobson’s Bay Division Athletics Carnival! This will be held at Newport Athletics Track on Thursday 11th of September. Wishing everyone all the best for those progressing to the next level, and above all, we thank students and teachers for their participation and assistance on the day. It was great seeing family members in the crowd cheering on our students too!

Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS / CAREGIVERS / GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online until Friday 19 September 2025.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

It is a really important data set for us as we plan for further improvements to our school. The survey was completed by a large percentage of parents and carers last year and all of that data was used when planning our Annual Implementation Plan.

Information about this survey was sent via Compass and we encourage as many people as possible to take the time to respond.

2026 Enrolments

There is a great demand for places at our school and we are required to carefully manage all enrolments to ensure there are enough places for all students who reside within our school zone. To assist us with this, please inform us as soon as possible if you have a prep child starting in 2026 or know of any other students who may be joining us in 2026. Similarly, if your child will no longer be attending AGPS in 2026 please let us know. All this information helps us greatly with planning.

Lunchtime Clubs

We are again offering a number of lunchtime clubs to provide students with a range of options during lunch breaks. These clubs are really important for many of our students as lunchtimes can often be overwhelming and having calm and structured spaces can support the social and emotional development that takes place in the schoolyard. The students have been doing a fantastic job in running these clubs and they are enjoying the experience of being leaders.

Camping Season

Camping season is rapidly approaching, with Grade 2, Grade 4 & Grade 6 students scheduled to go on camp between now and the end of the term. We believe strongly in the benefits of our strong camping program and it is a pleasure to see our students grow and develop on these memory-making experiences. We thank all the relevant teachers for their hard work in the organisation of these camps, as there is a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure a successful camping experience for our students.

The camps are:

  • Year 2 - Angahook (Anglesea) 15th-16th September

  • Year 4 - Camp Allambee (West Gippsland) 17th - 19th September

  • Year 6 - Canberra 8th - 12th September

We will close out the term with some very tired (but happy) kids and staff!

Have a great weekend!

David & Cam
