Book Week and Education Week

This week our school community came together to celebrate Book Week and Education Week in one combined event. It was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the importance of both reading and learning, and to celebrate the creativity, imagination, and achievements of our students.

Despite the rainy weather, the Book Week parade was a highlight. The costumes were truly next level, so creative and imaginative, and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces bringing favourite book characters to life. Book Week is not only about dressing up but also about fostering a lifelong love of reading and storytelling.

As part of our Education Week celebrations, classrooms were opened to families. Students proudly showcased their learning and even taught their parents, carers, grandparents a range of mathematics games, highlighting how learning can be fun, engaging, and collaborative. This year’s theme, “Ignite Your Potential,” was clearly on display as students, staff, and families shared in the joy of education.

A special thank you to Mr Morton for his organisation and leadership of both the Book Week Parade and the Book Fair, and to our families for supporting students with their amazing costumes and enthusiasm. Thank you also to the parents who supported the Book Fair—helping us continue to nurture a love of reading across our school.

Glendale Education Alliance Excellence Assembly

Last week, as part of our Education Week celebrations, we held the annual Glendale Education Alliance (GEA) Excellence Assembly. This special event is an opportunity to recognise progress and excellence across our community of schools, including Glendale Technology High School, Elermore Vale Public School, Glendale East Public School, and Argenton Public School.

Our students who were recognised should feel very proud of their achievements and the effort they have demonstrated in their learning. We also congratulate Ms Kendall McCallum, who was acknowledged for Teacher Excellence and her outstanding contribution to public education.

The Excellence Assembly highlights the importance of working within a community of schools, learning from and alongside each other, celebrating achievements together, and strengthening the connections that support every student’s success.

We are proud to be part of such a supportive and collaborative learning community where excellence is recognised and celebrated.

Online Safety and Responsible Behaviour

Our school regularly educates students about the safe and responsible use of social media. This week, students in Years 5 and 6 participated in a session with the Police Youth Liaison Officer on Monday, 18 August 2025, to discuss appropriate online behaviour and how to stay safe in digital spaces. These sessions highlighted the importance of respectful communication online and the consequences of inappropriate behaviour on social media platforms.

Students in Years 3 and 4 will also have a session on Monday, 8 September 2025, to support their understanding of safe and responsible online behaviour.

As part of this education, students will soon be learning about the Australian Government’s upcoming social media restrictions, effective from December 2025, which will prohibit children under 16 years old from accessing certain social media platforms.

As parents and carers, your support is crucial. We encourage you to be aware of the social media platforms your child is using and to have open conversations about safe online behaviour. If students experience or witness inappropriate online behaviour, it should be reported to a trusted adult at school or directly to the platform involved.
