From the Principal

Angela Romano - Principal

Dear Families,

As we journey through this term together, I am continually reminded of the spirit that defines Marian College, a spirit grounded in our Brigidine tradition of Strength and Kindness and a commitment to the dignity of every person. This edition of our newsletter shares moments that celebrate courage, curiosity, leadership, and community. Each story reflects the way our students and staff live out our mission as a Catholic learning community where faith and education are woven together.

Staff Spirituality Day

Our Staff Spirituality Day, centred on the theme Hospitality – Welcoming All.

The day began with a moving reflection as we set the Marian table of hospitality. Each part of the table carried meaning: the table itself representing welcome and belonging, the cloth symbolising dignity and respect, the bread and cup pointing to nourishment and shared faith, and the plate settings reminding us there is always room for the stranger and the guest. This act became a powerful symbol of the kind of community we seek to build at Marian, one marked by generosity, kindness, and openness. Throughout the day, we reflected on how to carry this spirit of hospitality into our classrooms, our relationships, and our daily lives.

Celebrating Sr Brigid Arthur – UNANIMA International Woman of Courage Award

We were proud to be represented at an important event where Marian’s former Principal, Sr Brigid Arthur, received the UNANIMA International Woman of Courage Award. This prestigious award honours her extraordinary commitment to social justice through the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project (BASP). In her speech, Sr Brigid reminded us that hope is what continues to propel her forward, a message that deeply resonates with our mission as a faith-filled community.

Principal for a Day – What an Experience!

In a joyful twist, I recently swapped roles and experienced life as a Marian student for a day. From sitting in classes to tackling maths and critical thinking tasks, I immersed myself in the perspective of our learners. It was a humbling reminder of the dedication our teachers bring each lesson and the energy, curiosity, and resilience our students show every day. Walking in their shoes deepened my appreciation for the Marian experience and renewed my commitment to ensuring every student continues to thrive.

Future Pathways for Our Students

The recent Subject Expo was alive with energy and possibility. Students eagerly explored options for their senior years, asked thoughtful questions, and began shaping their own unique learning journeys. The excitement on the night reflected both curiosity and courage. Thank you to our staff who worked tirelessly to support students in making informed choices about their futures.

Year 9 – Inquiry Project Presentation Night

Our Year 9 Inquiry Night was an inspiring reminder of how learning builds confidence and courage. Students presented their projects with passion, demonstrating critical thinking, communication, and bravery as they shared with teachers, peers, and families. These presentations were more than academic milestones—they were powerful steps in our students’ journey to becoming confident, thoughtful young women.

As the days begin to grow warmer and spring draws near, we welcome relief from the winter’s chill. With spring also comes the gentle promise of new life, fresh possibilities, and renewed hope. In this season may we be reminded of God’s constant presence, ever calling us to new beginnings and to nurture the seeds of faith, love, and hospitality within our Marian community.

God of Strength and Kindness, bless our Marian community. May our learning be guided by wisdom, our leadership shaped by compassion, and our actions filled with hope.
