Spotlight on Learning

Early Stage 1

In Week 2, we had a wonderful time celebrating our 100th day in Kindergarten! It was an exciting day that gave us the perfect opportunity to reflect on all the learning, growth, and fun we've experienced together over the past 100 days.

With our Year 6 buddies, students created colourful crowns beautifully decorated with the number "100" and proudly wore them throughout the day. We also had a blast practising our counting skills, counting all the way to 100 together! It was a lively and engaging way to strengthen our numeracy.

One of the highlights of the day was making gumball machines. Each student used their creativity to design and decorate their own machine, filling it with vibrant "gumballs." We also invited students to bring in collections of 100 items from home, and we were blown away by their creativity! We saw collections of pasta, playing cards, 100-piece puzzles, and much more. Every student had the chance to share their collection with the class.

To make the day even more fun, lots of students dressed up like they were 100 years old, wearing glasses, wigs, and using walking canes. Their awesome costumes made everyone smile and laugh, making the day unforgettable. Even Mrs Bryant got in on the fun and dressed up as a 100-year-old!

Stage 2

This term, our Stage 2 students have embarked on an exciting journey into the world of poetry! Through engaging activities and creative expression, students are discovering the beauty and rhythm of words. They have been experimenting with various poetic forms, including haikus, acrostics, and free verse, allowing them to explore their thoughts and feelings in unique ways. The classroom is alive with the sounds of laughter and inspiration as students share their creations, fostering a vibrant community of young poets.

In addition to our poetry focus, we recently celebrated Education Week, a fantastic opportunity for our school community to come together and reflect on the importance of education. As part of this special week, students set their learning goals alongside their parents and families, creating a supportive environment that encourages growth and achievement. These goals will guide our students as they continue to develop their skills and confidence in all areas of learning, including their blossoming talents in poetry.

We invite families to continue this poetic journey at home by encouraging their children to read different types of poems and even try writing some together. The joy of poetry lies in its ability to connect us, and we are excited to see our students flourish as they explore their creativity.

Stage 3

6S students are absolutely loving our class text Rabbit, Soldier, Angel and Thief by Katrina Nannestad. They have been exploring how figurative language can be used in newspaper articles to give a special shout-out to heroes. Students wrote their own newspaper articles about the main character, Sasha, describing how he contributed to the Red Army by preparing food, joking with wounded soldiers and cutting their hair. To enhance reader engagement and understanding, students incorporated factual World War II images and published their work using Canva's newspaper templates.

A huge thank you to all the 6S parents who joined us for our Education Day open class! The students thoroughly enjoyed your presence, reading alongside you and receiving your constructive feedback on their oral reading. Congratulations to the parents who won canteen vouchers during our Who Am I? game, where you successfully guessed the students' names after reading their descriptive paragraphs!
