Principal's Message

Mrs Kylie Bryant - Principal

Public Education Week

Last week we celebrated Public Education and what a wonderful show of Public Education our students and staff put on. Every year for as long as I can remember, and definitely for as long as I have been a teacher, we have celebrated Public Education in Term 3. In the words of a Year 10 student who spoke at Sydney Town Hall for the 2025 Proudly Public Awards, Public Education is one of our great national treasures. As a primary student, high school student, teacher and now principal, I look at the decades I have spent learning, growing and succeeding in public education, and I could not agree more.

Here at Roselea PS I am proud of the work our staff are doing and the nurturing environment they create each and every day. This year, the theme for Public Education Week was ‘Ignite your Potential’ and in line with that theme, we asked parents on Tuesday to be involved in developing learning goals with their child. We ask this as you, along with your child's teacher, are the ones who help ignite potential. As I said to the students on Tuesday, parents believe in you when you find things difficult. They push you out of your comfort zone, remind you that you can accomplish challenging tasks, and inspire you to try new things. I encourage you to keep track of those learning goals, to check in with your child on how they are going with them and to speak to their classroom teacher if you have any concerns or would like to know how they are tracking towards achieving them.

Last Tuesday Roselea was a hive of activity with so many parents joining us for the Book Parade, open classrooms, community morning tea and then our formal assembly. It was wonderful to hear our band play and choir sing as well as seeing our talented dancers perform. A special congratulations to all our Public Education Week award recipients.

60 Years of Roselea PS

This year, Public Education is extra special for our school community, as we are celebrating 60 Years of Roselea PS. Our school first opened in 1965 with 243 students and 4 staff. Today we have 307 students and 39 staff.

Here are some of the interesting facts about Roselea:

  • Roselea PS was first called Carlingford North PS, but the principal at the time ran a competition to select a new name for the school. The winning entry was Roselea, which means Rose Meadow - a nod to the historical rose nursery area in West Epping.
  • Over the last 60 years, we have had 13 different principals.
  • Our current longest-serving staff members at Roselea are Ms Pendergast, Mrs Rodrigues, Mrs Blicharski, Mrs Vassila, Mrs Clements and Mrs Pritchard.
  • When the school first opened, all the trees and plants between North Rocks Road and our school were not there. The staff and students planted these to make a natural garden and bush area along with all the plants and flowers that line the driveways.
  • At one point, our school grew so quickly that there were not enough buildings, as a result half the school had to walk down to other local schools and have lessons there and then walk back at the end of the day to Roselea to be picked up.
  • In the last 20 years, we have had more than 1400 students call Roselea PS their school, with 890 students starting Kindergarten here in that time.

Major Awards

Awards are an important part of school life and we know that families appreciate opportunities to join us when these are being presented. From week 5 Term 3, all parents of students receiving Principal Awards at the next assembly will receive an email inviting them to the upcoming assembly. To facilitate this, students submitting their awards to receive their Principal Award must be submitted to the office by Friday the week before. Any awards submitted after this time will be held over to the next assembly.

We will also notify parents of any other major awards being presented. This will include awards such as sporting ribbons.

Safety in the playground

We are very fortunate to have fixed playground equipment in our playground for our students to play on. I have spoken with students at our assemblies about the importance of being safe when using this equipment. Most importantly, if there is no teacher on duty, then there is no play. I ask all parents to support us in reminding their children that the equipment is closed before and after school, as there is no teacher on duty at this time.

Do you have a child starting Kindergarten in 2026?

We are about to begin our 2026 Kindergarten Transition program. If you have a child who is joining us in 2026, please ensure that you submit your online application as soon as possible so that you do not miss any of our transition events. If you have any questions please reach out to our friendly office staff who will be able to assist you.

Staffing news

I would like to share the news that Mr Yu has decided to take a break from teaching at Roselea Public School. His last day will be Friday 15 August. We are sad to see Mr Yu go and thank him for his contributions to Roselea Public School. We wish him all the best for the future.
