Year 1/2 News

Learning Centre One

We can't believe that the weeks are going  so fast! What a fun and exciting few weeks we have had with the preparation for the school performance of the ' Wizard of Oz'. Please make sure that you have read all the infromation on dojo that is relevant for the Wizard of Oz performance, and if you require clarification please ask your child's learning group teacher.

Literacy:

Our students were treated to a fantastic visit from authors Kate and Jol Temple. The pair brought their stories to life with humour, energy, and plenty of interaction, keeping everyone engaged. The children loved listening to them read aloud and sharing the adventures of their quirky characters. A highlight was drawing their own versions of the Mega Rich Guinea Pigs, sparking lots of creativity!

We wrapped up Week 3 with more stories from much-loved authors Kate and Jol Temple, then kicked off Week 4 by diving into our Book Week reads — How to Move a Zoo by Kate Simpson, The Land Recalls You by Kirli Saunders, and A Leaf Called Greaf by Kelly Canby.

To get into the Book Week spirit, students brainstormed creative ways to transport animals safely, drew their favourite places, and captured special memories close to their hearts in beautiful illustrations.

Math:

In Maths, we’ve been exploring multiplication and division through sharing and equal grouping. Students have been creating arrays and using skip counting to solve multiplication problems using hands-on materials like counters and blocks.

Religion:

In Religion, we have continued to explore images of God and what they tell us about belonging to His family. We’ve reflected on God as our shepherd and as the breath of life, and discussed stories from the Bible that teach us to show kindness to one another.

Inquiry:

In Inquiry, students have been learning digital technology through taking photos of objects and scenery around the school and experimenting with filters, drawings, and text to transform them.  We had an incursion from Inform and Empower

Performance:

It’s been a busy and exciting time as students work hard on their songs and rehearsals for our upcoming production night. They’ve been getting into the Munchkin and Oz spirit, ready to bring the magic of the stage to life!

Reading Awards:

Our students' in 1/2 will be recieving awards for their nights of reading. It has been great to celebrate their achievements and nights of reading. Congratulations everyone! Please make sure you are reading each night and that readers are returned every Wednesday to be changed.

Reminders:

  • Playground Use After School: The playground is not open after school during pickup time. Please remind your child to head straight to you and avoid playing on the equipment. Your support is greatly appreciated.
  • Ball games:  At the end of the day students' shouldn't be engaging in ball games due to the amount of traffic within the school grounds, as it risks injury to others.
