Learning Centre Three
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of excitement—from celebrating 100 days of school, to enjoying an inspiring author visit from Kate and Jol Temple, to diving into full production rehearsals. The coming weeks will be just as busy, with our book parade, making sock puppets with our buddies, our dress rehearsal, and of course, the big production in just two weeks!
100 Days of School
Last week we celebrated our 100 days of being in school! This was a very exciting day for both students and teachers. We began the day reading through a story ‘100 School Days’ and creating a 100 day crown. The students then completed a maths activity finding 100 things.
After break, our rotations began. The students had an amazing time on the jumping castle, enjoyed dancing along to popular songs and creating a picture frame for their photo to go in. We ended the day looking at our school memories so far and ate some yummy cake. The day was enjoyed by many with students finishing the day saying, “this has been the best day ever!”
Phonics
Throughout the year, the students have learnt all the letters/sounds of the alphabet and met Milo’s friends in the story ‘Milo’s Birthday Surprise’. After finishing our revision weeks, we have finally moved into the next phase of the Little Learners Love Literacy Program and have begun Stage 4 plus. So far, we have learnt a couple of new digraph sounds being ‘ss’, ‘ll’ and ‘ff’. The students have completed a couple of new activities this week and have continued to take part in focus teaching to support their reading and writing skills.
Congratulations to everyone who is continuing to read at home and working towards their next certificate. Regular practice at home reinforces the learning that is happening during our daily phonics lessons. Each night that you read a decodable text, library or home book, or practice some speed words or sounds, make sure to record it in your child’s reading journal.
Well done to the following students:

Literacy
In Literacy, we finished looking at the books written by Kate and Jol Temple and began looking at some of the books shortlisted for Book Week this year. The students have completed some craft activities and written activities based on the books ‘The Wobbly Bike’ and ‘Don’t Worry Felix’.
We are super excited to see what the students come dressed as for the Book Week Parade next week.
Maths
In maths, the Prep students finished up their unit of addition and subtraction. They used a lot of hands-on materials to help support them when practicing these new skills. This week, the students began a measurement unit on length. They have been learning new vocabulary words such as: tall, short, long etc and completing hands-on activities to help support their learning.
Religion
In Religion, we’ve continued to learn about what a peacemaker is and how we can be a peacemaker in our own lives. We have explored the bible story ‘The Good Samaritan’ and related it back to how we can be a peacemaker like the Samaritan at home, at school and our own community.
Wizard of Oz
Rehearsals are in full swing for our exciting school production of The Wizard of Oz! Next week, Wednesday the 20th August, the school will be having a full day dress rehearsal. Students are required to come dressed in their munchkin costumes. We will send these home with the students on Tuesday afternoon.
The Prep students will be taking the stage as cheerful munchkins and have been busy learning their songs: We’re Off to See the Wizard and Ding, Dong! The Witch is Dead.
The production will be held over two evenings:
Wednesday, August 27 – Students with surnames beginning A–K
Thursday, August 28 – Students with surnames beginning L–Z
We can’t wait to see our little munchkins shine on stage!
