A Word from Justin

Term 3, Week 4 - Friday 15th of August, 2025

Dear Families and Students of OLSC

Not long now until our school performance the Wizard of Oz!  I would like to congratulate all of students for their effort, dedication and enthusiasm this week as we have moved into rehearsal mode.  I would also like to thanks the staff, led by Jacq for their work in preparing the cast, costumes and set.  Many staff have given so much of their time, even after hours and weekends, to ensure this is a success.

Whole School Assembly

With many other activities happening around OLSC at the moment, there will not be a Whole School Assembly next week, as initially planned. We invite all of our school community to gather at the end of term to celebrate all of the wonderful learning and activities that have occurred throughout Term 3. Thank you for your understanding.

Sacrament of Confirmation

This Sunday many of our Year 6 students will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at our August Community mass.  This Mass celebration will be presided by our Regional Bishop Martin Ashe and I encourage all of our community to come along to support the Year 6 students and the community.

Last week the students participated in a reflection day that was led by John which included the opportunity to attend reconciliation with either Father James or Father Frank.  It was great to welcome Father Frank back to the OLSC community and he was very happy to be here.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the second of the three sacraments of Christian initiation.  Confirmation completes Baptism, by which in the laying on of hands and the anointing with Chrism Oil, which first happened at Baptism.

THE GREAT BOOK SWAP

Once again, OLSC is holding a Great Book Swap this year. This is to support the Indigenous

Literacy Foundation (ILF) in providing books and learning resources to children living in remote communities across Australia. The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous culture, and raise funds for a great cause.

From now until Monday 1st September, students are invited to bring pre-loved children's books (picture books, graphic novels, information texts or children's novels) in good condition that they no longer want at home. Each student can bring up to 5 books.

On Wednesday 3rd September, bring a gold coin to school to buy a pre-loved book to take home from The Great Book Swap. Parents, if you can help set up the book swap on Tuesday 2nd September or help with the sale of books on Wednesday 3rd September, please email me at kmorrissey@olscwyn.catholic.edu.au

Wizard of Oz Tickets

Ticket sales for our school performance are on sale. Tickets will be sold via the CDF pay app

Please note that doors open at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. It is expected to finish at 9:00pm and parents are not able to collect students prior to the end of the performance.

OLSC Book Week Parade 2025

Monday 18th August

The Book Week dress-up parade is coming up in the next few weeks! Students are invited to come to school dressed up as a favourite character or something related to reading books. The Book Week theme this year is 'Book an Adventure'. Students can also choose to wear something to do with adventure or even just wear colourful party clothes to celebrate their love of books.

The parade will be held in the school hall at 9 am on the 18th of August, and all families are invited to attend.

BOOK FAIR - This year, the Book Fair will be held later in the year due to the school performance being held in the hall. The Fair will be at OLSC in the first week of Term 4 - just in time to buy some Christmas gifts!

MACSSIS 2025

Each year students, families and staff are given the opportunity to provide invaluable feedback regarding all aspects of our school. This survey - MACSSIS (Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools - School Improvement Surveys) - is conducted via a secure and purpose-built online platform.

Our community’s opinions are critical to understanding how our school is performing – MACSSIS is a key data source for guiding the ongoing work to improve our school.

All participation is invited, welcomed and 100 per cent voluntary. The surveys are not a test; they are an inclusive way to support the work we are already doing to improve our school. Everyone has the right to refuse to participate, or withdraw from the survey at any point before, during or after completion of the survey. Please notify the school if your child does not wish to participate.

Please take a look over the Informed Consent letter below for further details.

Prayer for the New Church

The parish prayer for the new church is below.  Please feel free to include this in your family prayers as a new church for the Manor Lakes community would be a great feature of our parish.

Well Done Ben

Last week Ben recently undertook an Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) exam. He received outstanding feedback from the examiner and it was a very positive experience for him.  The highlight for Ben was playing his repertoire of songs on the beautiful grand piano.

Thanks Melissa and Michael for Sharing this on Ben's behalf.

 Share your Child's Achievements

If anyone in your family has an achievement that could be shared in the newsletter and is worthy of celebration and acknowledgement, please email Justin to be included in the next newsletter.
