THE MERTON PRAYER

My Lord God,

I have no idea where I am going.

I do not see the road ahead of me.

I cannot know for certain where it will end, nor do I really know myself,

and the fact that I think I am following your will

does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you

does in fact please you.

And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.

I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.

And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road,

though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore will I trust you always,

though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.

I will not fear, for you are ever with me,

and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Faith in Uncertainty

As we journey through the school year, the words of Thomas Merton’s prayer offer a timely reminder of the power of faith, especially in moments of uncertainty. Beginning with 'My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going…,' the prayer speaks honestly to the experience of not always having clear direction, yet choosing to trust in God’s presence and guidance.

Merton’s reflection is deeply reassuring. It reminds us that even when the path ahead feels unclear, our desire to walk with God, to live with purpose and integrity is itself a meaningful act of faith. His words encourage us to lean into trust, knowing that God is with us, even when we cannot see the full picture.

For our students (especially our Year 12 students), staff, and families, this prayer is a gentle invitation to embrace the journey, to be patient with the unknown, and to find peace in the knowledge that we are never walking alone.

Celebrating Creative Excellence: HSC Major Works Showcase: Splinters, Splashes, Sounds, Snaps, Stage and Stories!

On Thursday 27 August, the College proudly hosted the annual HSC Major Works Showcase -  Splinters, Splashes, Sounds, Snaps, Stage and Stories, an evening that brought together the incredible talents of our Year 12 students across a wide range of creative disciplines.

From the intricate craftsmanship of Industrial Technology and the vibrant expressions in Visual Arts, to the evocative compositions in Music, the compelling narratives in English Extension 2 and History Extension, the dynamic performances in Drama, and the striking photographic and multimedia works, the showcase was a true celebration of imagination, skill, and dedication.

Each piece reflected months of hard work, personal growth, and artistic exploration. The quality and diversity of the works on display were nothing short of outstanding, leaving those who attended inspired and deeply impressed by the calibre of our students’ achievements.

We extend our warmest congratulations to all students involved, and our sincere thanks to the teachers who have guided them with expertise and care. To the families and community members who attended and supported the evening, thank you for helping make this event such a memorable celebration of creativity and learning.

Chatswood Fair – Join Us for a Community Celebration!

We are thrilled to announce that for the first time, the College will be taking part in the Chatswood Fair on Saturday 6 September. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our local community and showcase the spirit of our College.

In collaboration with Mercy Catholic College, Our Lady of Dolours Primary School, and Our Lady of Dolours Parish, we will be proudly representing our shared community throughout the day. One of the highlights will be our College Drum Line, who will lead the three schools and the parish in the parade kicking off at 2:00 pm.  A moment not to be missed!

We warmly encourage our current and future families to come along, visit our College stall, and say g’day. It’s a great chance to meet staff, chat with current students, and learn more about what makes our College unique. A number of our students will be on hand throughout the day, assisting with the stall and helping promote the College with pride and enthusiasm.

We look forward to seeing you there and sharing in this vibrant community event!

Reminder of St Pius X Feast Day Holiday

Father's Day Celebration Friday 5 September -

Honouring fathers and raising awareness

Our Father’s Day celebration is just around the corner, and we’re looking forward to welcoming our dads and father figures for a special morning together.

In support of Jersey Day, we remind all attendees to wear their favourite team jersey to help raise awareness about the importance of organ donation in Australia, a simple gesture that can spark life-changing conversations.

A friendly reminder to please complete your RSVP so we can cater appropriately for the breakfast following Mass at 7:30 am. We can’t wait to see you there!

Weekend Grand Finals: Commiserations and Congratulations

Last Saturday marked the culmination of a season filled with dedication, teamwork, and spirited competition as our teams took to the field for their Grand Finals.

To those who gave it their all but didn’t come away with the win, we commend your effort, resilience, and sportsmanship. Grand Finals are never easy, and while the result may not have gone your way, your commitment throughout the season has been nothing short of inspiring. You’ve made your College very proud.

On a brighter note, a huge congratulations to our 15A’s, who delivered a stellar performance with a 2–0 victory over Chevalier! It was a match that showcased skill, strategy, and unity, and the team should be incredibly proud of their achievement. Well done to the players and supporters who contributed to this fantastic result!

I would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the coaches who have guided, mentored, and motivated our players throughout the season. Your dedication and passion have made a lasting impact. To all our parents and families,  thank you for your unwavering support, encouragement, and countless hours spent cheering from the sidelines throughout the season. Your involvement is a vital part of what makes our sporting community so special.

Looking ahead to this coming Saturday, we wish our two rugby Grand Finalists, the 15As and 16Bs every success as they prepare to take the field. Your hard work and determination have brought you to this moment, and we’ll be cheering you on with pride. Go well, and play with heart!
