Purple PLC

As we approach the end of Term 3, it’s a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the achievements of our students. Throughout the term, we have seen growth and learning shine through in so many different ways, which has been both exciting and rewarding to celebrate.

In our PLC, students have been continuing to develop their communication skills with the support of a variety of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools and Aided Language Displays. These have provided students with meaningful opportunities to express themselves, share ideas, and engage more confidently in their learning.

This term in English, our students have been diving into the magic of storytelling through sensory narratives. Using props and hands-on sensory items, we’ve brought stories to life in ways that supported engagement and made the characters and events feel real.

The highlights included exploring the classic tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and joining in the fun of Wombat Stew. From stirring the pot to trying out different textures, our students were immersed in the adventure every step of the way!

During Book Week, we celebrated by reading Don’t Worry, Felix. The students loved joining Felix’s journey by blowing up balloons just like the character, filling the room with colour, laughter, and excitement. These experiences are not only joyful, but also help build early literacy skills and a lifelong love of stories.

In Maths this term, students have been busy exploring a wide range of concepts through hands-on learning and play. They have been working on identifying and creating patterns, learning about Australian coins and notes, and investigating clocks and the concept of time. Students have also continued to develop their understanding of quantities and practised matching numerals to sets.

Plenty of interactive games and activities have supported this learning, with “What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?” being a clear favourite that brought lots of fun and laughter while reinforcing important time-telling skills.

In our Resilience Project lessons this term, students have been continuing to build their understanding of emotions. We have explored how feelings can be expressed in different ways, and the important clues we can notice in facial expressions and body language to help us understand how we, or someone else, might be feeling.

Students have also practised mindfulness activities to help them feel calm and focused, as well as exploring gratitude by recognising and appreciating the special people in their lives who care for them. These lessons are helping students develop the skills to recognise, express, and manage their emotions in positive ways.

Next week our PLC is heading off on an exciting excursion to the Rippleside Inclusive Play Space! We are looking forward to hopping on the bus and making the short trip to explore the newly renovated playground together.  The play space has a wonderful variety of sensory play areas alongside all the traditional playground equipment, designed to be accessible for everyone. It will be a fantastic opportunity for our students to play, explore, and enjoy the outdoors in a new setting.

If any parents or carers would like to join us, please see the office staff on Monday morning at 9:00am to be inducted as a parent helper. We would love to have your support on the day!

Thank you
