We look forward to our much-loved Book Week Character Parade in the PE Centre this year. Students may come dressed as their favourite book character (closed in footwear, appropriate for the playground must be worn). If students have HPE on that day, please bring your PE gear. Students must also bring a hat for playtimes.
The Theme for this year's Book Week is 'Book an Adventure!'
What: Book Week Character Parade Pre-Prep to Year 6
When: Friday 23 August
Time: 8:45am to 9:45am
Where: PE Centre (Families are welcome)
For Pre Prep families, and families new to the College, I wanted to outline the process for the organisation of student class placement.
Much time and effort are placed into these decisions, with the teacher’s knowledge of friendships and how their students work best in the classroom closely considered. Further discussions involving new students to the College and student learning needs across the cohort, to support a balanced class in all areas is equally important.
We appreciate your trust in our expertise in forming our classes, which are prepared with thorough review and discussion with the Primary Teaching Staff. Whilst we understand parents may have requests for specific teachers or peer groups, this is not our process and would appreciate your understanding. Classes will be shared with our families in the new year, ahead of the 2026 school year.
To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students during school excursions, it is essential that any required medication is provided in a clear and organised format. For this reason, all student medications must be supplied in pharmacy-prepared blister packs. These packs must separate medication by day and dose, and each compartment should clearly display the student's name, the name of the medication, dosage instructions, and administration times.
This approach helps ensure accurate and timely administration while maintaining consistency with a student’s prescribed treatment plan, especially in off-site settings. Medications must be accompanied by any written directions from the prescribing specialist, including specific requirements such as timing in relation to meals or any storage conditions.
This process supports a safer and more efficient approach to managing medication during overnight school excursions. Parents and guardians are asked to organise blister packs in advance through their local pharmacy and ensure all required documentation, including medical forms and specialist instructions, are submitted to the school before the departure date. Information regarding medication submission, will be shared closer to each specific trip.
We understand that the organisation of medication requires a planned consultation period and therefore this new process will begin from 2026.
Thank you for helping us ensure the continuity of care for students and allowing staff to focus on supervision and support, knowing that medication is clearly organised and ready for safe use.
Should you have any questions about this, please reach out to Mrs Audrey Fellowes: afellowes@clayfield.qld.edu.au or the Health Centre: healthcentre@clayfield.qld.edu.au
A friendly reminder that, unless students are participating in co-curricular activities, they are not permitted on the College campus before 7:30am, as there are no staff members on duty. The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) is open from 7:30am if students arrive before 8:00am. Thank you for your attention to this important safety matter.
Primary School Arrangements
Time | Where |
---|---|
7:30am to 8:25am | Lower LRC |
8:00am to 8:25am | Playground |
If arriving before 8:25am, students are permitted to drop their bags outside classrooms, put their hats on and go to the playground or Lower LRC area. A bell will ring, which signifies the beginning of the school day at 8:25am and students should line up outside their classroom to wait for their teacher.
The Amphitheatre, Palm Grove playground and grassed area in Leopard Terrace are available for play between 8:00am and 8:25am; however, the Tree Tops playground in Leopard Terrace is strictly out of bounds before and after school. The Pre-Prep classroom door opens at 8:30am daily. A parent or carer must wait with their Pre-Prep student until such time.
On Sunday 3 August, more than 55 Clayfield College students from Years 4 to 12 proudly participated in the Languages Teachers’ Queensland (LTQ) Speaking Competitions. This annual event provides students with an invaluable opportunity to showcase their language skills, cultural understanding, and confidence in public speaking.
Clayfield College was represented across both the Chinese and Spanish language programs, with students demonstrating outstanding preparation, perseverance, and enthusiasm. Each competitor dedicated many weeks to rehearsing their speeches, refining pronunciation, and practising fluency with the support of their teachers, peers, and families. Their commitment was evident on the day, as students spoke with clarity and confidence before an audience and adjudicators.
Our Primary and Secondary Spanish students also excelled at the LTQ State and Brisbane Speech Competitions. Several placed in the top three across both competitions, with many receiving the prestigious Elite Award at the State event, an exceptional honour recognising outstanding performance. This year’s LTQ Speaking Competitions were an inspiring celebration of languages, culture, and learning.
We invite grandparents to join our Pre-Prep to Year 6 students for a delightful morning of celebration.
On Friday 29 August, join Youngman House for a fun-filled crazy hair/wig and sock free dress day to support The Kids’ Cancer Project! Come along with crazy hair and help raise funds for vital research that’s working hard to find kinder, more effective treatments for children battling cancer. Let’s mix a little fun with a whole lot of heart to make a real difference!
If you are travelling to school on public transport, you must wear your uniform and change at school.

Pre-Preps were thrilled to welcome Recycleman this week, who transformed everyone into recycling superheroes with their own capes and masks.
He taught them to sort waste into red, yellow and green bins, and put special focus on his favourite – the bin with the YELLOW lid for recycling. Recycleman put numbers on the board that had a cool triangle around them, just like on their capes, and taught the children to hunt for triangles on packaging to know what products could go in the recycling bin. They discovered they could recycle glass, plastic, paper and cardboard. Look out for a recycling superhero at your house who is out to save the planet!
Inspired by the success of Science Week, the Year 6s wanted to prepare and lead a Science Fair for their Pre-Prep buddies.
The students formed a group across the two classes and planned a short science activity which demonstrated cause and effect. They sourced materials, designed a short presentation and set up a stall. The curiosity, engagement and joy on their buddies’ faces made for a wonderful morning. Opportunities to lead are so important for our Year 6’s and the students displayed care, confidence and innovative thinking.
